Introducing Mocky.
Mocky celebrates his Stones Throw signing with “Just a Little Lovin'”, a cover of Dusty Springfield’s 1969 classic. The release comes with a music video directed by Vice Cooler, inspired by old silent movies starring Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin. The visual follows a day in the life of a “monsterish semi-human creature” who wanders around L.A. and tries to connect with people who ignore and shun him… But everyone needs just a little lovin’, and eventually, he finds someone to dance with under the sunset.
Listen to Mocky – “Just a Little Lovin'”
Mocky says, “‘Just a Little Lovin’ has an important message that we could all hear more often. “Leslie Feist introduced me to the song while we were recording her album Multitudes. I loved the original version – it’s a waltz in 3/4, but I found a way to flip it over a 4/4 backbeat which brought the melody into a new realm.”
With his new work, Mocky hopes to capture the essence of humanity in an increasingly artificial and digital world. He tried a new approach for “Just a Little Lovin’”, gathering a group of friends and collaborators around one microphone in his garage. They sang together a cappella while he recorded straight to an old tape recorder.
