John Carroll Kirby

John Carroll Kirby is a pianist, producer, and composer.

John's background is steeped in jazz, but his signature sound blends genres and styles. He's collaborated with artists ranging from superstars Solange, Frank Ocean, Harry Styles, and Steve Lacy (which earned him a GRAMMY nod for the smash hit "Bad Habit") to beloved indie musicians like Connan Mockasin and Liv.e. He's released five LPs on Stones Throw in a little over two years.

John Carroll Kirby - My Garden (2020) was a blend of jazz and exotica, praised by Pitchfork, The Fader, LA Times, and more. The same year, John released Conflict, a calming piano album in response to the year's chaos. Kirby's 2021 jazz-fusion album Septet marked a return to ensemble playing, while Dance Ancestral (2022) saw him take a more electronic-forward approach. In 2023, John released Blowout, a record inspired by a period in Costa Rica spent playing with local musicians while Kirby imagined “failed utopias.”

John Carroll Kirby has collaborated on two albums with fellow Stones Throw artist Eddie Chacon - Pleasure, Joy and Happiness (2020) and Sundown (2023).
