Welcome to Stones Throw, Lionmilk.
Lionmilk, born Mokichi Kawaguchi, is a pianist, composer, and producer. He takes the DIY ethos to heart – he wrote, produced, and performed every instrument on his Stones Throw debut “get high”, a gently anthemic tune which he calls his “heartbreak song.”
“At the time, I wanted to smoke up and move on. I wanted to create another reality where I don’t have to face the grief and heartbreak. The last part saying ‘It’s alright, take a load off..’ is my inner spirit talking, welcoming me into a state of samba bliss,” Lionmilk says. The track comes with a new music video courtesy of Zach Sulak with cameos from friends like Mndsgn and an unexpected trip to the afterlife.
Though Lionmilk is new to Stones Throw, he’s been a friend of the label for some time, having collaborated with Mndsgn and played in John Carroll Kirby and Eddie Chacon’s live bands. Maybe you’ve caught him live recently at a local house show, or opening for Alabaster DePlume or Resavoir; heard his sleeper hit “Great Mother In the Sky”; or seen him riding his bike around Northeast LA.
Lionmilk’s debut album is releasing later this year. Stay tuned for more new music coming soon.
