Campus Christy was the name of Peanut Butter Wolf‘s high school band in the 80’s. They played all of one show, covering the songs of their day. Now over 30 years later, Campus Christy is releasing their eponymous debut album. The gatefold vinyl is shipping exclusively from the Stones Throw store today and it will be available digitally and at all good record stores worldwide on December 6th.

In 2020, during a moment of reflection, Chris knew he’d regret never recording an album with his own vocals on it. He decided to make a covers record inspired by the private-press albums that has influenced Stones Throw over the years. He teamed up with Brian Ellis – Chris admired his work with Egyptian Lover – and after several rounds of exchanging music and vocals, they had Campus Christy.
Today, Campus Christy premieres their sixth offering from the album, “Horizon” with a new music video. The original “Horizon” is from the mid-80’s and “sounds like part of the LA Paisley scene,” Chris says. “I discovered it around 2010. One of the first ones Brian and I tried to cover. Brian asked if he could add synth to it and I said sure and Shags Chamberlain [mixing engineer] said it made it sound more like Joy Division which always works for me.”
The video follows Chris visiting different parts of LA, ultimately ending at his therapist’s, played by J.Rocc. It was shot by Alfredo Lopez, an old friend of Chris who has done videos for Stones Throw artists including Vex Ruffin and The Koreatown Oddity. “I asked Alfredo to pick a song to do a video for and this was his favorite.”

On “Candles,” Campus Christy teamed up with Say She She for a new song and video. It’s inspired by early-80’s synthy spiritual electro-funk.

“The Visit” was released alongside a claymation created by students of Andrew Morgan, founder of PPU Records. It was the first song that Brian and Wolf made together – it was originally recorded in 1966 by sunshine pop group The Cyrkle and served as the sample behind J Dilla’s production on A Tribe Called Quest’s “Get A Hold” back in 1996.
