Back in 2021, Silas packed up what little he had into his car and drove to Los Angeles from Chicago for two reasons: to be closer to Peanut Butter Wolf and to essentially live at Stones Throw Studios. LUSHLAND is four years in the making – it packs a lifelong love of neo-soul, classic R&B, hip-hop and funk into 12 songs – a passion passed down to Silas while growing up in Milwaukee and playing in gospel bands with his dad.
“GUY” is a song about wanting something more from a girl who keeps things focused on late-night calls to come over instead with a video directed and edited by Ross Harris. For the remix, Silas connects with Stones Throw alumn Karriem Riggins. “GUY” follows previous Silas releases “L-TRAIN” – a love letter to people watching in Chicago, “ILIKEU” – a light-hearted note to a crush, and “My Conversation”, a cover of The Uniques’ 1968 classic for the Oscar, Bafta, and Golden Globe-winning film A Real Pain.
