Pre-Order: Bardo – Transformation Time
Listen: Bardo – “Sad Boy”

“Sad Boy” follows “Renacer”, performed with NYC-by-way-of-Colombia band Combo Chimbita. While “Renacer” was a celebration of personal rebirth, “Sad Boy” is an introspective ballad of self-pity and unrequited love. In the accompanying music video, Bardo plays a vintage harlequin and a forlorn vaquero in a nod to his Southern California and Latin background.

Bardo says: “‘Sad Boy’ was a song I wrote in five minutes after an argument with my wife. Yes, I’m wallowing in self pity, and I admit that: I’ve always been extremely emotional. But the song is also an artistic proclamation to the world: ‘you won’t know that I matter til I’m gone.’ As I developed ideas for ‘Sad Boy’, I bought a 12-string guitar. I love John Lennon and the nakedness of Plastic Ono Band and Imagine. ‘Sad Boy’ was my first song recorded at Stones Throw: we tracked bass, drums, piano, and Wurlitzer to tape, and I told the drummer to give me ‘kick, snare, and a few Ringo fills.’ ‘Sad Boy’ is raw and purely emotional, and there is no other way I would want to present Transformation Time.”
