The Stepkids: RBMA Mixtape

The Stepkids
did an interview with Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) for their “headphones highlights” show when they were in Berlin – you can listen below. The band is on tour right now with Kimbra and set to release a new 4-track EP “Sweet Salvation” in a couple weeks.

From RBMA: Though they’re not yet household names The Stepkids come from an esteemed pedigree. It’s a supergroup of sessioners, of sorts. The individual members of the Connecticut bred trio – childhood friends Jeff Gitelman (guitar) and Dan Edinberg (bass/keyboards) along with drummer Tim Walsh – cut their teeth scoring films and touring with the likes of R&B songstress Alicia Keys and indie punks Zox. As a collective, however, their output looks firmly to the past. The 60s to be specific. Their self-titled Stones Throw debut brings together the warmest sonics of classic American psychedelia while touching on the heaviest depths of classic soul. They then fold these elements – high functioning harmonies, dubbed out infinity echoes and funky basslines – into the present tense by way of cohesive songwriting.
