Joe Paris Christensen and Cameron Kinghorn are King Pari. The duo’s debut album on Stones Throw – There It Goes – is out digitally on October 18th with vinyl to follow. Today they release “Somethin’ Somethin'”, their fourth single following “Wait a Minute”, “Better The Devil”, and “Bag. Full. Of. Cash.” The track balances summertime fun with careful reflection.
“Somethin’ Somethin’” was written in 2020 during the pandemic and civil rights protests. King Pari says, “It was a time when we, along with everyone else, were trying to make sense of the massive, deeply disruptive changes to our world that didn’t make sense, as well as all the anger, pain, and confusion that was felt across the world.” The song captures the feeling “of grasping for understanding when understanding is impossible.”
On There It Goes, King Pari brings their Minneapolis funk pedigree to Los Angeles. The band was the result of a happy accident that occurred back in the Twin Cities. Joe and Cameron had been playing in the same Twin Cities scenes for years, but when Joe sent Cameron a new tune he’d whipped up on a tape machine, something clicked. That session grew into the first King Pari song.
Pre-order King Pari’s debut album There It Goes on special edition tangerine vinyl today. Joe and Cameron are headed out on a tour throughout Europe with Ginger Root this Fall. Stay tuned for more updates.
