“Press Bookfa Press” 12-inch EP released today, produced by Nice-A-Bunks (Peaking Lights)

Duppy Gun Album 'MULTIPLY' coming Spring 2014

The complete recordings of Duppy Gun Productions will be released as an album and film on Stones Throw Records in Spring 2014.

Duppy Gun was founded by Sun Araw and M.G. Gengras in Portsmore, Jamaica, and records in collaboration with the local music community centered around the fishing village of Forum. The production duo has released four 12-inch vinyl EPs, including the latest one which we’re announcing today, “Press Bookfa Press”.

Side A: “Press Bookfa Press” is helmed by Portmore youth Bookfa (Keniel Ellis) on a tight-pressed rhythm by LA producer Nice-A-Bunks (Aaron Coyes of Peaking Lights).  The track was recorded late night in an unfinished house outside of Kingston. Nice-A-Bunks generously unspools a twelve-minute scramble-DUPP'D version for track 2 on this vinyl, sending the vocals and various percussion into slow, looping orbits around the groove.

Side B: "Girls Dem Need Mi" is pure youthful fire from Spanishtown and Los Angeles, G Sudden, produced by L.A. resident Genesis Hull (Alex Gray of D/P/I). G Sudden lays proper styles between pop-a-lock claps and clear flame synths. Vocal is all LED-spinners and black-light ground EFX, but even further out is the extremely energetic 12 minute dub which flips into the ultraviolet, stretching the groove along the spectrum from footwork to jungle to some Escalade-rattling place beyond.

The Duppy Gun album will include these four records and a generous portion of as-yet-unreleased tracks by Aaron Coyes, Alex Gray, Butchy Fuego, and Stallones/Gengras, featuring vocals by I Jahbar (Oneil Thomas), Fyah Flames (Jodian Gordon), Early One (Alan Pitt), G Sudden (Okeme Robinson), Lukan I (Dave Smith), Bookfa (Keniel Ellis), Dayone (Carlton Sappleton), and Singin' Crazy.

In addition, the album will include a documentary film-work by Tony Lowe, director of Icon Eye, the documentary accompanying the Icon Give Thank album.
