Description: When I first heard that there was a book out that was written by all my favorite rappers from the 80’s and 90’s on how they created their classic albums, my first thought was, ’how do I get it?’ My second thought was, ‘how did someone get all these artists to go into so much detail?’ Brian Coleman took on a huge task, but after reading it I was so glad he did. The artists each break down their albums to Brian song by song. As someone who’s spent years in recording studios, I learned a lot and also related to a lot of the stories. Check The Technique isn’t just for people in the industry though. Last year, I bought 10 copies to give to all my friends as Christmas presents.
The stories behind all the golden age hip hop albums are told here. De La Soul’s 3 Feet High, BDP’s Criminal Minded, EPMD’s Strictly Business, Eric B & Rakim’s Paid In Full, PE’s Takes A Million, ATCQ’s Low End Theory, Wu-Tang’s 36 Chambers. Speaking of 36, it’s 36 chapters on 36 albums by 36 rap artists.
We could only get our hands on a dozen (that were hand signed by the author BTW) and these will go quick, but I encourage EVERYONE who has any interest in hip hop music to seek and find this book. I promise you’ll read it cover to cover, even if like me, reading books isn’t really your thing.
