Breakin Point (UK) March 2003
Peanut Butter Wolf, When was the last time you...
...had a stand off situation over a record with someone digging
in the same
shop as you? Cut Chemist and I were in this shop in Chicago. He was going
through the album section, so I went over to the 12" section. Luck
would have it that an old school hip hop DJ had sold the shop his whole
collection and I was pulling out gem after gem. He tried to get in on
the wealth, but realized it went against unwritten "dig-ging etiquette"
and let me go. It was bittersweet.
...ate half pound of bacon and a tub of strawberry jelly on one
sandwich (apparently Elvis did it right before he died)?
I just like to open a box of sugared cereal and eat the whole box dry
at one sitting. Usually I go the whole day eating nothing but crackers,
chips and cereal because I don't make time to cook anything. I eat out
every night though.
...watched American Werewolf in London?
Never saw it. Isn't that the movie that inspired the Michael Jacksons
"Thriller" video? But I'm in London soon. I love Wagamama's
noodle house, Crazy Beat Records, Giles Peterson's radio show, and the
soundsystem at Plastic People. You guys know how to get down.
...discovered an artist who was later picked up by someone else?
I guess Planet Asia was the biggest. He was initially working with Fanatik
and I asked him to be on my album, 'My Vinyl Weighs a Ton' to which he
blessed. After that, he asked me to put out his album, but I felt it wasn't
right because I met him through Fanatik, who wanted to release him on
his label. So, eventually lnterscope snatched him away from Fanatik.
...wore your Tux?
I haven't worn it since we started sending it off to those high school
kids for their proms. You never know what kind of stains it could have
on it now. Prom season's coming up though, so I guess I need to dust it
off again.
...visited San Jose of The Bay?
I was their last weekend for my sister's 30th Birthday party. A bunch
of us rented a cabin and sang karaoke hits of the '80's. I was the master
of ceremonies. (damn, I should've brought the Tux).
...did a mix tape for your mates?
I guess the Karaoke tape I made for my sister's birthday was the last
one. I went so far as to search the internet for the song lyrics and print
them all out for everyone to sing along. We sang 'Go' by Tones On Tail,
'Sally That Girl' by Gucci Crew, 'Bizarre Love Triangle' by New Order
and even did 'La Di Da Di' (I was on beatbox). We recorded the whole thing.
I'm thinking of bootlegging it.
...put a dollar in a jukebox to spin them good ol' 45's?
I went to a bar on Christmas night with my best friend in San Jose and
the selections were horrible. The only thing they really had was the Prince
'1999' album, so we each picked 3 songs from it. We got an hour of music
for 2 bucks. They should have kicked us out the bar for cheating the jukebox.
