Arabian Prince is an oft overlooked legend of west coast Hip Hop. The Inglewood, California-born producer and emcee was instrumental in the development of the culture, including a role in 1982 documentary film Breakin’ and Enterin’ which also featured Ice-T and Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E.
By the mid ‘80s, Arabian Prince had steadily released a slew of singles on several labels, as well as a handful of albums. In 1987, he appeared on “Panic Zone” with N.W.A. on the N.W.A. and the Posse album. A year later, on Straight Outta Compton, Prince also worked on “Somethin’ 2 Dance New.” He also produced J.J. Fad’s “Supersonic,” the ‘80s hit single interpolated for Fergie’s 2006 hit “Fergilicious.” Although his membership status in the historic group has remained mysterious, Arabian Prince was a key figure in Ruthless Records’ launching.
On August 19, Peanut Butter Wolf’s Stones Throw Records is releasing Innovative Life: The Anthology, a 12 track compiling of Arabian Prince’s singles throughout 1984-1989. “Panic Zone” is included, as well as the Electro hit “Take You Home.”
The CD includes a 20-page booklet and west coast rap timeline.
