Has anyone checked this documentary out? It has been out for quite a while now and it is amazing. I just thought I'd share this with you all. Should be able to check it out somewhere. You might even wanna consider just buying it, it's awesome. It has tons of great footage, some great Thelonious quotes and great band quotes too.

Amazing flick.

Did you guys catch that part when this lady gives him a pen to have when he signs autographs and he says that line that Benicio Del Toro bit in "The Usual Suspects"?

Benicio say, "I'll flip you...I'll flip you for real" and he's real hard to decipher.

And Thelonious says "You'll flip!....I mean, flip for real!!"

...so, yeah. Benicio must've seen the flick, I guess.

i own straight no chaser, its really nice. but i was reading up on criticism of the dvd and they were going on how the documentary was on his later years when he was going through his. it would be awesome to have footage of him in his early years though.

what do u think of that album with coltrane? i still LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVE alone in san francisco, its like his heart is echoing in the speakers.

Are you talking about the Coltrane album that just got released? The one that consists of some Carnegie Hall performance that was recently discovered and cut into an album?

I LOVE that shit, the opening track is great...makes me calm down.

I feel that whole "later years" vibe that you were talking about from "Straight No Chase". You can see it. Aside from the obvious dates throughout the film, you can tell this is when everyone is feeling him and he is at the top of this popularity...and having the most challenging time with his.

I'd love to see some footage of his younger years, but I was under the impression that they just don't have much footage of him at all. I think that they put most of the footage they had into "Straight no Chase"....

By they way, were you as suprised as I was when you realized that Clint Eastwood produced it? Wtf?! Never saw that coming.
