OK, after what must have been a record all-time low in the voting polls (where was everyone!?) there was a slightly embarrassing 3 way split for winner, and no one has posted a sample yet so I just wanted to say that we will be posting ONE.
Hope to see one from each of the other winners!

Eric Dolphy - Hat & Beard

Edit : TKurata schooled me on the actual rules, so here we go.

RULES:

1. You can sample as many or as few of the sample songs as you want, no restrictions.
2. Limited outside synths, vocals, scratches are ok. The focus should be on the sample
3. Drums wide open, outside drums ok.
4. Submit your beat starting Thursday evening through Friday 1200 Midnight EST
5. Voting begins Saturday morning through Saturday 1200 Midnight EST
6. Competition wide open for newcomers.

I don't see why people think jazz is the greatest thing to sample. Most jazz is very difficult to work with, unless you'r trying to do some 1994 shit.

TKurata...here's one of your vids...the other one is having trouble uploading to Youtube...

sorry it's not more exciting...I am really limited on footage as I don't have a video camera...so I had to use all found footage from the Prelinger Archives...lemme know whatcha think!

PS - I've only been using this program for about 2 weeks now (I think)...

I dont know if that was about our choice, but I dont think its the greatest thing to sample.... Its just one of many, its coincidental that we posted jazz. I was going to post some Edgard Varese piece or a hindu-folk piece, but I just happened to post the Dolphy. Didnt mean to upset anyone, plus I hardly think the piece is hard to work with.

And to everyone, I didnt post the obvious Friday Midnight submission rule cause I thought someone more veteran of the board would....I didnt want to appear as if we were barnstorming in and demanding things.

I assume people want to continue with the same deadline and voting procedure? Hopefully more than 7 entries and 7 votes...

I wouldn't worry about stepping on anyone's toes here -- hey picking the rules is one of the advantages (or curses) of winning the previous week...

just make it fun for people and hopefully we get more participation..!!

don't see the point or relevance [to 53] in that comment. unless u don't like the picks, in which case, dry your eyes mate. to each his own

Sug's is pretty nutty -- the beats should be nice this week..!!

I didn't see where anyone said that...and I don't think jazz is difficult to work with. you talking bout 1994 with the high top fades and when the beat were mighty raw?

TKurata...here's one of your vids...the other one is having trouble uploading to Youtube...

sorry it's not more exciting...I am really limited on footage as I don't have a video camera...so I had to use all found footage from the Prelinger Archives...lemme know whatcha think!

Cool shit, man, thanks! I'm gonna have to start a YouTube account or something. Got this one up on myspace...anyway looking forward to the other one...good look! hope the art show goes well, your job seems pretty damn rewarding. i'm not jealous of that at all!

Hell yeah 3 samples! I gonna love this...we should have more 3 way ties!

Regarding the voter turnout...to Bill C and Subbass -- I'm not "upset" with you guys for not voting, not anyone in particular. Just sucks that more people don't contribute to the battles on this board. You guys contribute a hell of a lot so don't apologize...we missed hearing your sounds this week, but Subbass you can take off as many battles as you want to churn out TKurata vids...<_< j/k.

Yeah don't worry about that like t!llman said...also seems like some people have a notion that somebody is "in charge" or moderating these battles...nope it's a team effort. Yeah you can make your own rules as winner but in a 3 way tie? ...anyway these are the basic rules if you want to edit the original post and paste these in:

RULES:

1. You can sample as many or as few of the sample songs as you want, no restrictions.
2. Limited outside synths, vocals, scratches are ok. The focus should be on the sample
3. Drums wide open, outside drums ok.

...um...well 8 votes instead of 7 woulda done the trick provided it wasn't for me...there were some late votes...anyway maybe next time if there is a tie at midnight the next vote would be the tie breaker (whenever that would happen on Sunday)...or whatever.

eh -- I'm just about done with mine as well -- just need to tighten up the drums and get the bass to the exact correct pitch. maybe in the free time I will add some more touches -- but yeah, I'm pretty much done...

Yo Jin you were saying you had a rough week last week...everyone alright with you and the fam?

I'm having my usual terrible, headache-inducing, stressed-filled, high pressure day at the office. What the fuck else is new?

I'll tell ya what's new my older sister's having her 3rd kid tonight, a little girl...:)

Stroke of Midnight on Thursday, Jin. It's going down! :D
