What are we gonna call the album? Any way you slice it, the album name will have to have Steely Dan in it...and therein lies the problem.

this is a page where you can download all Steely Dan albums -- to download the album copy and past the "Rapidshare Code";

for example if you want to DL the Can't Buy a Thrill Album, copy and paste the following link into your browser: http://rapidshare.co...l__320.rar.html

This will bring you to a RapidShare page that hosts the album -- select the FREE button for the download -- a timer will count down when it hits 0.0 a form will pop-up for you to enter a short passcode (you know those validation things with the squiggly letters), enter that and it should bring up a window that allows you to save the album.

you will download a .RAR file, which you have to "unzip" (use WinRAR) and there you have it...

(hope this answers all your questions)

lol...honestly there is something about that moniker that throws my brain in reverse. somehow I can't wrap my mind around it...I usually just refer to YO LOUNGE HIM NINE as J2MFG...anyway yeah I may possibly never be able to spell or say that moniker...don't know why.

we have to figure out what we're doing. because if everyone's just going to take a bunch of steely dan bits, then there's no point in all the people picking tracks for their own. thought that was supposed to be the challenge of this competition, making a good beat with the limitations of ONE steely dan track.

this is the first beat battle i was gonna jump into but now i'm all confused and shit.

also regarding that synth's question, is that "legal"?
cause i usually try do that with most of my samples.

Use some synth...just don't overpower the sample with it. We gotta be able to hear the sample in there somewhere...

i thought jin was kidding about the synths hence the lol afterward

i'm not really feeling the format either. i was all set to use 1 sample but when TK said he was gonna use more that opens it up cause personally i feel like if i have more to choose from i'm gonna make a better beat

Damn...this multisample argument always gets me in deep. I didn't mean to start this conflict... anyway it seemed like people were content on picking their one choice, which is what a good percentage of heads on the board seem to prefer. My regular beatmaking method always involves multiple samples, and usually I'm pretty limited in the battles--so I thought it would be a good time for me to use my regular method. Anyway, it doesn't really matter. I would say for people that want to use multiple samples--just don't sample recognizable themes or melodies from SD tracks that have been claimed in this thread. I don't really see what the big deal is?! No disrespect, but the naysayers are folks that don't really submit battle beats regularly...

This isn't really a standard beat battle, I thought we were going to try to help each other refine our tracks and make the dopest album possible...winner picks album name or gets track #1 slot on album?

It would help to get some beats from DeezSteez, Drella, Remus, and Bill Collector. wuh wuh where ya at?

whutever...I'm so busy this week it will be a miracle if I can make anything great for the battle...anyway I might submit late anyway. from the amount of responses on this thread we should have a TON of beats--I hope everyone submits...

sorry for the multisample wrench...

sorry for the multisample wrench...

if there is any issue I have over this is that the beat battle wasn't about who can make the dopest beat from whatever they want to use rather it's about who can make the dopest beat with the selected sample. In this case instead of one person picking the sample(s) everyone was to pick a song for their beat -- but once the doors are blown wide open on what you can use then the challange of the battle drops...

but whatever, the reality is that it's nothing to get all worked up about -- I have no problem with people using any many SD songs as they want, adding whatever synths they want, etc... I just think it would have been cooler had everyone followed the same formula...

^^^normally I would pretty much agree...but I was under the impression that this 50th week was a whole different animal. either way, everyone is choosing different songs this week so it seemed like a perfect time to use many samples...

What I would really like to do when I get to choose samples is choose about 6 tracks and limit the battle to NO synths and NO outside sources with a requirement to use ALL sample choices...but people would throw a fit. Ultimately I wish the winner could pick whatever rules they want and still have a good turnout...instead it seems like whenever the status quo is altered people start complaining and ducking the challenge. no disrespect.

I just think it would have been cooler had everyone followed the same formula...

Here are the formula(s)

A. STMB Presents "Steeling From Dan" with samples used exclusively from Steely Dan records.
B. STMB Presents "Steeling From Dan" with each beat using one Steely Dan track as the sample.

IMO option A is the clearer concept. Either way, I don't care.

I like it the title, Shakey.

I hear ya, like I said it's no big deal whichever way it's sliced. still I am gonna stick to the one song, so everyone keep your grubby hands off "The Fez" - ha ha
