What's happening? Basically MF Doom's performance was so anti-climatic... You had Aceyalone, Mikah 9 and Abstract Rude f&^R%g ripping it, then blastmaster KRS-ONE! was there and absolutely got the crowd going wild, Crazy Legs (say what!) did some breaking and Fat Lip did his whole cameo deal. The crowd was seriously amped and it took way over 30 minutes for Doom to get on the MIC, when he finally did- I initially thought he was lip-synching... just sounded so off. He didn't address the crowd at all, his hype men were bunch of clowns and earlier in the show people's enthusiasm was off the charts- when he was on the crowd's energy just disappeared. He was removed, detached or something, it was weird. Personal problems? Mental problems? The Kanye West problem (ego)? Who freaking knows?

actually... the more i think about it (as the liquor evaporates from my being), i really think something was up... MF's mic was on a total different amplification then anyone else's... I mean seriously- i am not adamant that it WAS fraudulent, but man not saying happy new year to the crowd, saying much love or anything, i mean nothing?! Unsettling...

Many are wondering what was up with the MF DOOM "performance" last night? I was in the front rows of last nights event, and all I know is what I saw...

After the blow up surprise performace of KRS-One at the turn of the new year, the audience had to wait almost 30 minutes for MF to make his appearance. In that time they had security clear all of the backstage area so NOBODY could be back there or directly see MF enter the stage. (weird?) Minutes before he steps on stage one of his masked so-called posse members comes up and sets up additional mics to right side of stage. It looked like an MPC and some extra gear. The first song drops without DOOM saying anything, I mean not even a what's up? The fans are hyped that he is finally out regardless, because he is who everyone was there to see. Within 15 seconds of his first verse a few cats from the very front of the audience, turn and leave the venue. One of these leaving few pulled me aside on his way through the crowd to tell me, "That's NOT DOOM!". I watched others trickle out from the from lines through the rest of the first song. What was off was that MF's mic was super low and off from his triple hype-man crew, who were rapping half of the verses as well. The Masked goons were the only ones to address the crowd between songs, say happy new year, and politic with the audience. A few heads from the performers section tried to get on stage and were immediately grabbed off stage by uniformed officers. Even the movements of MF were slow and distant. The was no exchange of energy between DOOM and his fans. The audience itself was standing still with few rapping the verse louder and better than he was. The energy that consumed the stage at the outset of KRS was gone. After 5 or 6 poorly performed tracks their "equipment" fouled out and suddenly there was no more DOOM. Not a wave, not a goodbye, just left. After a brief lull and awkward silence, the house emcee came back on the mic and was shouting statements about "real rapping" and brought out Eligh, Scarub and Luckyiam to bring the hip hop patrons back to their senses, delivering a performance that rose the energy back-up to where KRS had left it. The rest of the night statements from the performers about how their mic is "on" were littered throughout the set.

So was it a ashlee simpson catasrophy of an underground legend? Was it even the real MF DOOM or some fake? Either way it was a surefire disappointment to the many fans that came out to support and celebrate the new year with MF DOOM.

My homie was there last night and was back stage so not sure where you heard that from. He said it was Doom and even rapped with him after the show, but he did say the show was less than spectacular.

But KRS on NYE!? That's my cup of tea right there.

it was deff bizzare... i dont no wat the fuk it was, i dunno if it was or wasnt him at times wen i was lookin at his lips it didnt look like it could poss be rapping, however he did a few an i mean few adlibs like rapping the first verse of accordion again at the end and we he wen he smaked his lips like snot bubbles ... BUT i was front or close to the front the whole night and the mics had tape on them red blue and purple so they cud talk to the sound stage and say "turn up the purple mic"etc .... DOOM had a new mic with no tape an a red light on it which had not been on stage previous to him appering afta clearing out the entire section bhind the stage and makin the crowd wait 40 mins of SILENCE!!! also u cud bearly make out a conversation being had between one of the hype men an MC Iz in which Iz seemed very dark rite b4 DOOM came on it was really quiet but u cud hear Iz being like WAT?! c;mon maaaan. neway DOOM came on but his voice was turned Waaaaaaaaaaay down his hype mens mics were 3 times as loud as his if he was even rapping, i def detected lip synch .... b4 he came on he was like "yo LA u think this aint me" neway there was no "turn my mike up" no point his mic to the crowd to rap the verses etc... i mean it was fucking lacklustre ... he did benzie box one beer a track of spec herbs 1-2 monkey suite fazers accordion then all caps which he stopped b4 he finished then he was bout to leave an his hype men were like yo we out an then they were like give it up for DOOM and every1 boo-ed then they were like aiite well keep it craking he did curls didnt finished just walked off stage his hype men stood there lookin at each other then they folowed and they left 1 paking up the mpc.... u could see them walk out the back and get into a car ur man def did not hang roun an rap with him. He cudve dispelled the myth by swaping mics with a hype man but he didnt. ther were dudes videoing the whole scene which was being linked to the screen bhind the stage... one of the posse who had no mic but was securing the stage went up to him after all caps and had a nut at him next thing they were gone it was fuked but KRS was fuking d0pe

Well there ya go everyone. Now we know for a fact it wasn't DOOM.

The question that I pose, how long has this been going on for??

Was that DOOM at the LA show at the El Rey this past year, or was that this other clown?

I know DOOM is the villain but thats pretty sheisty to send off one of his friends to lip synch in his place

By the way, has anyone seen DOOM without the mask on? Just wondering I dont think ive ever seen a picture

What a shame. I kinda thought his set would go down like that, but I was hoping it wouldn't. One would think a NYE show with such a great line up could go down a little bit differently, especially if his name is right up there with KRSs. I get his whole thing about being your enemy, but how long is this shit going to keep up? Sending out your look-a-likes to some shows is kinda funny (So long as you never bought a ticket and your reading about it on this forum), but this shit's getting played out. What's the deal?

MF Doom = Milli Vanilli/ Ashley Simpson/ etc.???????
