I don't see what the problem is with wearing a Dilla shirt.

As long as you know you're a true fan, and not some moron jumping on the bandwagon, then there's no issue. I have four Dilla shirts (TURN IT UP!, CLEAN IT UP!, Jaylib, Dilla Donuts), I wear them all the time...

Janet Jackson wasn't on a major? Q-Tip wasn't on a major?

Dilla produced a shitload of tracks on major labels. Just not solo.

You can produce a track for an artist on a major label, but that doesnt mean YOURE on the label. Thats why I said DILLA was never on a major label. Which makes sense, because he never got the proper promotion. And I guess you can count MCA but what came out of that? Not much as you can see. No big deal.

Nah, this is manipulative. it's riding the wave of someone elses legacy and it's bullshit. I'm not a huge Dilla fan. I respect thefuck out of him and I love his work, but I wasn't a huge follower before his death and I don't pretend to be.

Yo i agree. Sometimes i think all this J Dilla changed my life nonsense in a way does damage to his legacy, by way overstating his contribution in the grand scheme of things, and in a way almost ridiculing him. Its like this any time any guy in hip-hop dies we vastly overhype them and make them into these demigod martyr figures. DJ Premier is my favourite producer ever but he aint change my life, how could he do that? He persuaded me to part with a load of cash and buy up a bunch of records i love, but he's no different to anyone else who's had the same effect on me. Eddie Murphy, Bill Hicks, Curtis Mayfield, Bob Dylan etc etc I've enjoyed work from all of them, but did they change my life? Nah not really

Werd! that add is fucking stupid. making a hat out of ground beef... still harmless!?...well.... yes

I fail to see the harm in making a ground beef hat and listening to your hair grow. and shit, trying to send an E-mail!? fuck man.... ... not exaclty harmFULL... probably be pretty funny the next day. beef-accessories and bounced emails, not scary for the kids. EDIT: night in jail... also not too bad, should have added "where you are brutaly sodomised"... attle do it

If anyone was going to claim to be Dilla's number 1 fan then it should go to Q-Tip. After all he's the one that hooked him up and really helped get his name and beats to the groups and then the masses.

By the way, did anyone else peep the blog on Dezo's myspace about ST?? That's some funny shit right there!

Whether it's a mixtape/tribute/eulogy, whatever the hell you wanna call it, there's a reason these guys haven't caught shit like Dezo. It's all about the cover, not the music. And I would expect someone who was a sketch artist and photographer to be more creative than...

It's like he didn't even try to put his own touch on it. And the guy obviously doesn't get the reason behind the "drama." But I was on his myspace page earlier today and must admit that I find his ability to take a shitty situation and use it as self-promotion... impressive.

Biggie's Kick In The Door over "Oh Oh" or whatever is the shit. After a few listens, I could do without the Jay Z track. I skip over it everytime now. But overall, it was pretty good.

lolol@posts 106-108 or so

but uhh listen here.

just cos he didn't change YOUR life doesn't mean that his music can't change SOMEONE ELSE'S life
think about the inspiration that he's given ppl
that's what this thread is about, in a way
his approach to drums/rhythm - the crazy shit that makes your head nod, that he was the first to do (most of yall know what I mean) - that's some shit that can definitely change your life just from a production standard (i.e. if you're a would-be producer)
and yes, if your standards as a listener get raised to the point where you don't listen to the radio anymore... well..
