I almost kind of know what alot of people answers will be, but it's somethin' I was thinkin' about earlier today.
Me personally, I don't know?
I mean, if they started doin' all that CRACK-RAP shit, HELL NO.
started signin' artist like Lil' Wayne, Yung Joc, and those G Unit clowns, HELL NO.
but if they made it doin' what they've been doin', then yeah probably.
But then again, I try to differ from other fools and not do what they do and not like what they like, so I don't know?
I'd rather Stones Throw just stay where they are, and the world will be an okay place.
What you guys say?

it depends on what they put out..

i had some serious problems with alot of the lyrics/musical contet on shine through
some of the tracks are decent on that record
lyrics like "let me take your g string off, oh lordy" come on.
imo most of that release sits in no mans land between the mainstream and underground
leaving both sides unimpressed...
it just shows how stupid i am, or how much i love this label.
i was seriously angry over a release
i like the "different" non hip hop whatever stuff on stones throw..
i did like aloe blaccs cut on chrome
it just seems like on shine time he spread himself thing trying to be diverse

if the music starts to insult my intelligence i will jump off in a minute
i like stones throw because of the variety and depth..

but as for now...
chrome children has some good shit on it...

that dudley song is such a perfect fall/halloween groove
reminds me of the monster mash

exactly, i'm a fan of the music. If i no longer like the music, i'll no longer be a stonesthrow fan. If its mainstream and it's good, then i'll still like it. If it's mainstream and shit, then i won't like it.

werent a bunch of people talking about roc 'c' as someone who dosent sound like he should be on the st roster? i mean i think roc's great and his stuff is different from everyone elses. but its produced by oh-no and there is no way any of those guys would be on mtv anytime soon.
indy music has a specific crowd and most of the stuff released is done in limited (somewhat) releases so to make stones throw mainstream, wolf may loose more $$ than make it. think about sample clearance (oh god would madlib be trouble) printing, promoting, marketing....mainstream releases are more than just the music.

Yeah, I know.
I just thought about that shit because I was watchin' some bullshit on MTV with G Unit and it made me think. I was like "See, this is exactly why I only turn my TV on at 10:00 to watch Adult Swim and In Living Color"

I would most definitely still be fan of StonesThrow and or any label that puts out good shit....no matter how well recieved it becomes.

As long as a label is making music for the sake of making good music, and not doing it to capitolize on a target demographic or just to make a buck...then I'm down. I respect all labels that are tying to make good music...even if I can't stand the music....I will still respect it for the fact that their heart is in the right place.

i was thinkin about this question as when i was at the gym today where they had on some dumbass MTV show. they had some commercial on there with bands i thought i'd never see on mtv, TV on the Radio is the only one i remember right now. i'da thought that some MED or some Dilla/Jaylib woulda been on there before TV for sure, so maybe the question isn't that far fetched after all.

i mean nobody's gonna argue that tribe was dope, they were on MTV in their day right? busta put out his share of shit too, he was/is on MTV.

on the other side of it, justin timberlake's new one good. he's been on mtv for years.

I'd be pretty happy because hip-hop would have another era of golden years...then again it'd def get choked by a lot of busters.

granted.

but what i was sayin was that they're evidence that mainstream hip-hop and music in general doesn't have to be lil jon and fallout boy. the world can except what we (the STMB and other underground heads) consider quality music. we just need someone to break through.

and to answer the question, i would still like stones throw if the were mainstream. good music is good music regardless of where it comes from or who hears it.

they can only break through with major label backing nowdays,ok once in awhile someone will slip through completly off their own back but they are few and far between

end of the day its all about money, majors do not give a fuck about music just the cash and how much they can sqeeze out of an artist until they run dry and fans stop caring(or buying ther shit) about them

sad but true. :D
