Does it work well? Does it make a bigger sound, as the legend is saying?

its actually 2inch tape that gives the lushest sound but I suppose 1/4 still does as well according to theory

well, doesn't it have to do with number of tracks vs. tape width? if you record to 32 channel 2" tape, you're only getting 1/16" per track, whereas stereo 1/4" works out to 1/8" per track, so in that case the 1/4" machine would have a lusher sound...? maybe? i know the real dope thing is the phenomenon known as "tape compression" - when you overdrive the input level to tape. in digital land when you drive something over the 0db mark, you get annoying clipping, but in analog land, that's where it starts sounding super cool...

the tape compression was precisely what is hit upon. 2 inch tape has a lusher sound due to the attention to detail of the iron oxide particles.

though you have the right logical thought, 2 inch still sounds FAR better than 1/4"

you gotta hear for yourself, less hiss I guess is what you can say. Just try it and let me know what you if you agree.

no, he likely loves the way he dubbed them, in which case you need to do exactly as the person who hooked you up says.

dont be a sheister, thats how the business works. If he wanted mp3s he would've done it himself. He's got to do precisely as he instructed to build good repoire. Thats the industry. Follow instructions properly from current/potential clients.

I just picked up two r2rs for free this weekend and a shedload of tapes that someone recorded a bunch of albums onto. Does anyone know if I'd be able to record over the tape that already has been recorded onto?
