Shit! Damn! Mother..

I wasn't expecting this, thanks a lot everybody! Just because a lot of songs sounded alike doesn't mean it wasn't a really good week, moste of the stuff were really top notch..

I'll be browsing for sample songs, I'll try to find two, and be back with you in a jiffy ;) :D

Help me out here! I've already decided one song, but for the other, first one to speak up gets to decide:

Jazz or soul?!

SOUL

I'm tired of jazz and prog rock...(for battles that is)

Something with some vocals maybe?
Maybe something from the 60s?

I don't know man....

Soul it is!

I know this one has been sampled before, but it has vocals, a bunch of different instruments, it's pretty long, and it's basically one of the ultimate love songs. Cats (and beat makers) should be able to make something good out of this.

Close the Door by Teddy Pendergrass.

And for all the video game cats out there:

Stone Man from Mega Man 5

:D

My views on synths etc: allowed, but I'd prefer if the songs are based around one or both of the samples, and the synth/piano/bass or whatever is only used to add something to the song, like a bassline or a crazy lead or something. Not like a synth song with hints of sampling to it :(

Now go out there and be somebody! :D

of course!

i'd say cuts/scratches are cool to add, maybe vocal samples as well. however, adding a 5 minute monologue for an intro probably isn't that cool <_<

nice to see ppl like these samples! ;)

Feeling is mutual - i think you will find that most of the people here are just playing around, it isnt until you try and start to make money off something then your truly a biter, ive had loads of dilla originals and primo originals in the mpc, just to have fun with it and see how it was done.....if i seriously had a go at making music for money then it would have to be original.

HA! Teddy? a bummer? surely not?!!?!.....id be very suprised.

stems from the following

In 1976 lead singer Teddy Pendergrass left the popular group Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes to pursue a solo career. By 1982, he was the reigning R&B sex symbol, giving women-only concerts for his adoring fans. That year, however, Pendergrass' career came to a screeching halt following an automobile accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down and his passenger, a transsexual woman, dead.

Formerly a heartthrob, Pendergrass was unable to regain his popularity. His career could not transcend his paralysis or his companion's sexuality (and the implications of it for his own sexuality).

Yeah see. I heard that along ass time ago from somebody
Same shit with Luther Vandross. All kinds of niggas coming down on Luther about that shit after he passed.
It's sad to say, but I have a favorite line about Luther
"Rest In Peace Luther, Theres some other niggas gay on the low, Oooooohhh.." - Joe Budden - "Dumb Out"
The beat on that song is pretty dope. SUPER POWERFUL.
Anyways, I finished my beat and i'm super interested to see what everyone comes up with
DOPE ASS SAMPLE CHOICES. At first I was like "Damn, how the fuck i'm gonna do this..?" Then after some Subway I had.

Whose using both samples?

I just chose to use the old school Mega Man!

(I finished my version of the song about 30 mins after I downloaded the sample...its about 2 mins long)

I just hope this time around my STMB BB song sounds better than my first attempt...just have to wait till Friday

liking what I've got so far, but all of my loops that I've created seem too different from each other to really go into a cohesive track together...talk about frustrating...each one could be a basis for a different beat!

I found it kind of difficult with the mega man :P

the other track was good I'm just not too inspired. I obviously need to get back into making beats

I've been working with the Teddy Pendergrass track strictly...I can't really get into that 8-bit sound much...it's cool and all, but just not my style....

I'm gonna hafta sit down and work on this some more...
