Ayite...the much anticipated Feedback post:

Bnick - That was good stuff, but you'd be better off posting your beats to Myspace or Soundclick...not everyone is gonna want to wait for a Megaupload free DL link. Also, try to wait until Fridays to post your stuff if you can...makes it more likely people will see your link to your beat.

Doot - Was having trouble getting your music player to load at first...finally up & running though. Pretty nice beat so far...still listening...some of the little "rolls" are a little too "stiff" for me though...did you use quantize features when you did the drums? The progression of the track is dope though...like the instrumentation....

Genesis - Yours still isn't working...hit us up with another link (as a reminder) when you get it up & running and I'll check it out.

Ren - Nice sampling...but the length of the intro had me buggin'...I would have liked to hear a bit more variety...it worked for what it was though. When the vocal samples kicked in it was such a welcome relief...not sure if you planned it that way or not...

Quas3 - Yours had a cool sound...Like your chops...how ya switch it up late in the track...nice stuff.

Josh G - DOPE sound!! Yours has overtaken my favorite spot now...something sounds a little lacking in your snare sound though. like it doesn't fit the kick. Have you tried running a highpass on the track and then mixing it back over at like 80% volume? It might bring out your snare a little...still the dopest track yet IMHO.

Uh oh...just listened to my track from my Myspace page and it cut off on me...it's not supposed to do that...it has a real smooth fade-out at the end. Did it cut off on anyone else?

EDIT: Nevermind...it's working properly now...

Glad to know I ain't the only one
But your shit is pretty dope
Real airy and I like that laid back shit
Then it switched up to like some uptempo jazz-tech kind of stuff and I thought that was SUPER different and tight!
Not to jock too hard, but I want to try to make some stuff like that

Don't get all butt-hurt kid...I was giving feedback. I'll go back and listen again and make sure I had the right track...but I'm pretty sure it was the right one...

EDIT: Yep...it was the right one. I think it's the horse-trot (click clack) beat that had me bored...that and the bassline. You threw in a few little variants here and there, but I'm just being completely honest...I never finished the track because I got bored with hearing the repetition. Not meaning that as a diss...just giving my honest critique. Doo-do-doo do-le-doo-do-dum-dum (that's the best I can translate the bassline into words) over and over and over again had me losing interest.

EDIT #2: Oh...and I don't pretend that I've got the most variety-filled beats in the world. Once I have something that sounds good, lots of times I'll stop. If I mess with it too much it kills the sound sometimes, so I go back and simplify it again. This beat was one of those cases. I tried adding in more synths in the verses and it interfered with the dope piano samples. I tried adding in some piano work, and again, it just messed with the overall sound of the track, so I muted those channels when I finalized the track. Decided simple verse/chorus/verse patterns were the best for the sound of this beat.

Don't get me wrong...it's not bad work. I didn't want you to think I hated it or anything. In fact...the one thing I DID like about it was that the repetition kind of lulls you to sleep a bit, so when the vocal sample kicks in it takes you by surprise. That's kind of what I tried to say in my first critique of the beat. Not sure if you designed the beat like that on purpose, but it was effective in a way.

yeah the whole feedback thing can be a minefield too!

nowadays i try to focus on "what i like" rather than "what i don't like". practically one works better than the other!

Moz'Money Productions

Got a nice atmosphere going. Drum sounds were cool.

Juice B()X guy gets the prize for nice chops (isolating the pianos and percussion)

Bill made a deep, subtle groove with a dark feel.

Ren sorta had the most "innovative" angle with Reggies Strut.. I felt like he pulled off the most successful "flip" (you would have trouble I-Ding the sample, which is definitely a big part of hip hop these days - covering up :P

Josh G is my overall favourite just cause he made something someone could definitely rap to or vibe to.. that's a useful asset in a track, and sorta what "beats" were originally about. The feel just got me straight off the bat. Respect!

big up all submissions
