I might be able to make a small page with voting specifically made for these competitions, if yall are interested.
It will need some administration from 1-3 people (adding the competitors every week, and the urls to the beats)

Just an idea i got..
Maybe add some kind of upload feature so we have all the beats at the same place..so we dont need to go to myspace/whatever. But maybe that is bad?

Tell me what you think.

sounds like its gonna be fun. mine is on the 19th, hope it's a blast like yours was
:P

Congrats!! Hope everything goes smooth like mine did. There were a ton of people from both our families that had bad blood, but they really came together and got along great at the wedding. Shit...some of 'em even danced with each other!! I've been told that weddings either bring out the best in people, or the worst in people. Now I know they were right.

Oh...and if you havent thought of it yet...a "wishing well" is the shit (instead of traditional gifts like plates & stuff). We got over $4,000 in cash & checks as gifts!! And our families are NOT by ANY STRETCH wealthy. We feel really blessed.

Best of luck man!!!!

OK...since I don't know if I'll have a chance to post it up later (and since I'll be leaving for Hawaii tomorrow), here's my entry for the latest Beat Battle (thanks for lettin me post it early!).

"I Want To Be" - Feat. 4 yr old Jalen Wilkerson on vocals

Excuse him for being off-key...he actually recorded the vox for a different beat (that he wrote!)...I'm pretty impressed by him actually...lol...be watchin for him in about 15 years!

Can any of us post a version of the beat by the deadline or is there only particular participants? I couldn't tell and I'm kinda new to this.

I think we wanna keep it pretty strict to posting them Friday. I know the only reason they're lettin' me post today is that I leave on my honeymoon tomorrow. Also, I've found that the longer I "sit" on a beat, the more crafted it becomes...so it might be worth it to hold on to it until the deadline, and listen to it at least once or twice a day to hear the small mistakes...then fix 'em or work on 'em...

But welcome to the battles! I'm excited to hear what you've got to bring!

dope man!

I was hoping the kid was gonna bust a full out rap,
i like his sound on it tho, very cool.
What did you for the bass? is that a synth or a sample from the said song?

I just want to know cause if it is a sample from the song I need to know how the hell you made it so punchy.
sounds great.

nice sample work.

Haha...thanks Ren. I wanted him to try rappin, but he ended up singing the whole track. It was really funny though...I was tryin' SOOO hard not to bust up laughing, cuz he was all serious & stuff...and he's 4. He just kept singin', "ooooh...yeah....oooh...yeah...baby...I waaaaantttt to beeeee...." over and over. I hope he had fun makin the beat though and that it gets him into making music...his dad already has him playin drums on a little kit!

The bass is a sample I added into my kit a while back from a Peter Brown record...just a simple one-off note that I sampled. To add the punch I layered it with my kicks in this track, normalized the volume, and compressed it. There's only a range of like 8 or 9 notes that I can play it on that have that punch to 'em, but i fuckin LOVE the sound of it. I've had it in my kit forever and just never really used it until lately.

I was a little worried cause i wasnt coming up with anything good as far as bass goes and that just sounds pphhhhhaaat.

but yah, it sounds like something I know, something familiar, like an old beatles basss sound or something.

can defn tell tho that it was compressed to shit tho.

cool, well maybe next time you can get him to bust a rap.

i bet hes good!

It's too bad he lives in Chicago (and I'm in San Diego)...otherwise I'd take him under my wing and record him all the time...get him started young!

mm its okay. I already battled the cloaked avenger. I rhyme. If you would like me to rhyme on your stuff, more than happy to figure something out with you. I dont burn bridges. I called you a bitch in a somewhat jokingly fashion, and thats NEVER okay of a man. No matter in what form, whether it be face to face or via electronic. I'm not the type of gentleman to do so and I dont view ladies objectively in such a manner. Pardon my display ignorance and lack of character.

was that constructive?

Yeah, they's all good, but one of them definitely stands out. I'll save it for the voting though, as to not spoil the fun :P
I'll see if I can cook something together ..
