I'm going to propose a new rule....if you are going to enter a beat....at least make it NOTICEABLE that you used the sample. I'm not directing this to anyone in particular but damn.....
That's why I'm totally against using synths in the beat battles because I can make any old beat not even using the sample and just say I added synth and filters to it. Some people do a good job mixing the synth/filters with the samples but some OVER DO IT.
Like I said, I'm not directing this toward anyone in particular so don't take it to heart.
naaaaaaah , i dont think anyone would pass off a tune pretending to use the intended sample....if it were a remix battle then maybe...infact no..even then i wouldnt care if it was recognisable.....if dabrye enterred this comp...im pretty sure he'd electro it out and bitcrush the sample beyond recognition. i rely on filters to make my basslines from the original sample...All my entries have been obvious in terms of tracing the steps i took to make my beat......but Bills are usually Filtered and to be fair thats his style and as his style seems to be pretty popular on this board, to tell everyone that filters arent allowed....would just be gay.
but synths..... hmm you got a point there..or have you.. is a decayed synth stab a drum sound ...whos to say? if a 909 kick drums middle section is looped to 2 seconds is that drum sound now a synth? or if a rim shot is stretched to 20 times its original length is that now a synth sound.....is a drum machine a synth? Bob Moog thinks it is!!!!
i know where your coming from ern..but where can you draw the line.....i think its up to the voting to decide whether a beat is a good use of the sample or not.
thats my 2 pence worth anyway.
