well.....

i recall when s.throw released on cd a good majority of 45's from their catalog... some tracks more obscure than others. imagine how the 45 crew felt when they saw all their collections - of time, effort, and money on one disc....

sound familiar..

granted the majority of tracks are somewhat new depending on who listens to it.

so even though i'm not excitied about the chrome release. I myself have come to an understaning of the scenario.

i guess what peeves me is that we live in a myspace world... no one has to join it. Obviously if you support the label your going to subscribe to their page..... hell their one my "friends" list...

the entire chrome project promo effort has come across to me as well shall we say corny.. and im not saying corny, in a cool retro 50's flashback craze.....

stones throw ring tones.... wall paper... i don't know man.....

i liked how s.throw used to promote their product. we live in a different time so you have to keep the pace to win the race.

its just a question if im down with that.. i'm sure others have felt the same one way or another

adult swim (big with 18-24 age group and teenage suburban white kids)
plus
stones throw (most known unknown).
it could work...

i just hope people dont jump on ST just for the trend, thats when things start going downhill... (rushed releases, subpar albums, loss of true fans)

You just have to remember that Stones Throw is a record label at the end of the day and it's here to make money...
It's not "The Hip Hop Special Friends Club"

 :D

granted --- yes you are correct. but there are ways to promote and not...

example.

i'm not a fan of bathing ape but they have a quiet way or at least, used to have a quiet way in promoting their clothing line...

Damn, they got ring tones, wallpaper and a shoe.

They should market some Quasimoto plush toys so I can put one in my car :(

I mean as long as they continue to put out good music...I don't care what they do. EVERYBODY GOTTA EAT....

I know this label has definetly grown since I registered back in 02'. Just the amount of people at shows back then to now and on the board is crazy. It's like watching a kid grow into a teenager (if that analogy works)

Very true.....but teenagers are also at that stage where they are trying to find their place in society (or the music world)...so you kinda give support while still letting them do their thing

yeeeahhhh.
stress you always find the craziest avatars, where the hell do find these.

and my opinion on the whole marketing thing, pbw has to do more than magazine ads and simple word of mouth since his label is probably the strongest in the underground scene. and wolf just wants it to be stronger.

Mos def.

I like Stones Throw for it's music, not for it's perceived obscurity status. If the sound stayed the same but Madlib went top twenty, would you jump ship?

You'd have to be an idiot to pass by opportunities to get your label promoted to a wider audience. Sorry if they are not your little secret anymore.

Knowledge dropped !!!

There is nothing more weak than those who champion something then drop it as soon as it gains some sort of popularity... :D

"Oh man, Mc X has sold out now there are more than 10 people in the world who know who he is..."

Get over it... :D
