Hey guys thanks for all the listens and votes -new kid over here. So I come from a jazz piano background. I love improvising. SO this week. I need :30 seconds of live improvisation from you!

RULES:

YOU GET 3 "TAKES": MAKE THE BEAT; MAKE IT GROOVE; THEN GIVE ME YOUR BEST SOLO. YOU ONLY GET 3 CHANCES TO RECORD. JAZZ JAZZ JAZZ JAZZ JAZZ

USE AN MPC! MAKE A SAMPLE LOOP. MAKE IT SOUND A BIT OFF. GIVE ME YOUR BEST JIMI HENDRIX OF THE MPC

USE A GUITAR
USE A KEYBOARD

USE A TRUMPET/TROMBONE/LITERALLY ANYTHING THAT MAKES NOISE BUT LET'S JAM
CALL YOUR UNCLE THAT LIKES THE GRATEFUL DEAD

GET SOMEONE THAT PLAYS AN INSTRUMENT OR SAMPLE PHISH/PINK FLOYD/THE GRATEFUL DEAD

I want a :30 second guitar solo/keys solo/ MPC/ give me something where you've got no plans. Make the beat. Make it groove. Then let yourself shine! THREE TAKES. HONOR SYSTEM. DON't WRITE A SHREDDING GUITAR SOLO AND PRACTICE IT CUZ THAT WOULD BE WACK AS FUCK. THATS IT. FEEL THAT SOLO. YOURE THE STAR -_- IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO IMPROVISE, WRITE IT IN C, AND JUST PLAY THE WHITE KEYS!

SAMPLE BELOW:

https://www.dropbox....d Ken.aiff?dl=0

DON"T HAVE TO USE THE SAMPLE. But free yourself. Give me :30 seconds of you taking it to the next level and just GROOVING. IMPROVISE. BE REAL WITH IT

Production rules :
1. :30 Seconds minimum of live soloing/IMPROVISATION
2. outside drums - allowed
3. keys/synths (VST) - allowed (SYNTH SOLO)
4. acapella/skits - (FREESTYLE) CAN ONLY BE YOU RAPPING/SPITTING
5. cuts/scratches - allowed
SPECIAL RULE:
YOUR BEAT MUST FEATURE YOURSELF OR ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS IMPROVSING/SOLOING for a minimum of :30 seconds on some type of instrument

Have a good week. Thank you again. Stoked to be part of this community!

>Post your beat - by Wednesday at Midnight pacific time
>Vote - by Friday at Midnight pacific time
>Winner - post new sample, rules, etc - by Saturday Noon pacific time and upload the sample here:

ITS ALL ABOUT IMPROVISATION JUST DO THAT AT SOME POINT AND YOU'RE GOOD

VOTE OR DIE
NEW PERSON HERE:
Did that all work? If not tell me I'm dumb and I'll change something up!  :D

I think with battle themes like this, or the bodies one - the theme is king rather than the sample so I'm cool with the 'don't have to use the sample' thing.

We'll get a week soon where it is 'flip the sample' and it will feel sooooooo dull :)

Congrats on the win as well man.....and nice theme

Congrats on the win and welcome to the group! Love the rules. This will be good for me as I have a tendency to get loopy. ...in more ways than one. :)

what are the fucking odds that I've been digging into grateful dead shyt this week.

apologies for not voting yesterday, I...I got too high because I was watching the grateful dead...

the first song of this set has a real hip-hop breakdown feel too. Bill Kreutzmann's drum playing from 1971-74 when Mickey Hart (second drummer) dropped out of the band because his dad embezzeled 90-140k from them is really jazzy.

also I havea trombone

The sample is not my cup of tee, but I managed to chop some short parts and do some filter work to come up with the basis for this jam right here:

I'm no pianist as you can hear, but I tried my best, LOL . Looking forward to hearing the entries. And congrats on the win Who Is He?

My go-to -- can't solo on keys to save my life, but black keys are like plaing the drums. then if i hit a white key by accident it jus sounds like Thelonious...

( so, so not true, and ain't no dis... Monk is my all time favourite jazzman ,,, that's  good advice from the break master )

Congratz Who Is He.

Unfortunately no improvization from me as I won't be able to use my sampler to do that before the deadline,

but I did my best with the sample and drums. So please take my submission as a non entry.

if i get in on this one it won't be very different from my usual entries lol.  95% of grifty beats are made by the seat of his pants

Came into this really open-minded and with a first attempt at using Ableton's simpler, which I only just discovered so this week's rules were perfectly-timed for trying it out... Big congrats to you, Mr Who Is He?!

Outside samples are two drum loops, one a loop from a session I recorded on the kit in my basement, the other from the stock-library in Ableton. Everything else is The Stepkids played thru the simpler keyboard (yeh, mostly the black keys ;P) and recorded via the sp-808.

Congrats on the win and really enjoyed the rules, although whilst travelling with no midi controller I had to just jam out on the qwerty at high latency! I did a couple long takes and cut them together with a bit of quantising, hope that's deemed fair.
