So I've been a member here for a little bit but rarely post other than an occasional comment or track(mostly a lurker haha)but I thought id give another shot at saying whats up.Been producing for almost a year after taking a few Berklee courses online.I would say the artist i draw the most inspiration from is Burial even though its not really present in my music.Ive wanted to get involved in this forum before but i mostly spend my time on the SPForums although  I've noticed that some of the peeps on there are also here like chopper man and chief bob.So Im here again to say whats up to everyone on here and look forward to chatting w/ y'all.

What's good,

I lurked heavy on the SP Forums back when I just got the 303...there is a few good threads on there if you really really dig...one for example is the cheat sheet you posted...Used that a lot awhile back...and I still do sometimes.

A lot of cats in VA doing the beat thing right now...like Tuamie and them...ever met em?

Hey man no I haven't heard of those dudes but i def will check em out. They got Soundcloud pages? And yeah that cheat sheet is awesome especially now since I'm having so many issues w/ eq on samples as far as getting rid of frequencies that i don't like or that are too loud.

Yeah, i'm not sure which dudes are coming out of VA exactly except Tuamie... but I think Ohbliv is from out there... I could be wrong though... but look up these names on soundcloud or youtube

Tuamie

Ohbliv

Wun Two

Dibiase

Dakim

Ras G

....there are more people but those are some who have been getting more popular recently.

don't worry too much about eq, just make those bangers..... remember somebody already mixed and mastered those samples back in the day so you shouldn't have to tweak them too much.... unless it's drums and shit.....I usually leave all my samples the way they are.. give or take a little low end cut or boost.. depends....usually more cause i hate finding bass.

Thanks for the help man...one more question...is it a good idea to compress the samples at all??Maybe thats why I hear frequencies that hurt my ears...either that or I've damaged my ears form too much headphone bumping(tinnitus?)

tinnitus is ringing.. and yeah you probably did depending on if you play it louder than you should.... you don't need to compress the samples for that... what you need to do is go into w.e program you use and use the eq to find the area you don't like and cut it....i can do this in reason, but I don't use it that much anymore... only to preview sounds i'm going to import into the sp ...compression is usually one of the last things you might do to a track... or if it's a one shot.. you might compress that... but there really is no rule.. you do it and see what happens.. if you like it you run with it....you might not even need to compress and instead use a limiter.. which is another form of compression, but it just limits the loudness any freq can get
