STBB #425

first...

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE LOVE ON MY TRACK

It's VERY appreciated

Theme of this week is "Get Weird" HA!

I spent an hour making a few random sounds that work together for you to slice, dice, and get nice with. Also threw in a section of Rachmoninoff's 2nd Concerto that can also work with the stems I made.

RULES

1

all outside stuff = all good

2

must use/feature one of the samples from my pack and also the rachmoninoff 2 track

(keep in mind you can cut them up how you wish)

3

keep it under 3 minutes

FINAL RULE

The reason why I called this comp get weird is more so to get you out of your comfort zone

Figure out what you been into lately and do the opposite of that. Try something new & fun. When you post it here let us know what you did different that usual and what you learned doing it.  I say this in hopes to not only start more conversation in these boards on techniques, but in the hope that at the end of the week you feel like you/we got better as producers.

FIXED SAMPLES

(couldn't get zippy to upload tonight, hope this will do for now)

https://www.wetransf...25121834/3dd433

Stoked to hear what you all come up with.

...Bonus points of you can find something cool to do with those synth monster sounds haha

Congratulations Max..well earned.  I normally don't go all uptempo and electronicky.  So this is different..weird.  Used some of the extra perc samples and filtered the phuk outta Rachmon'..  peece reece

Congrats Maxwell!

Here's mine for the week:

Things I've done different on this one:

1. I usually make smooth beats, this is something completely different

2. I used some effects I never use (mainly, a LOT of distortion!)

3. I made the whole beat using only the trackpad and keyboard of my laptop

4. I didn't bother with really precise mixing, giving it a rougher sound

Hope you enjoy it!

Heres mine.

Listening to the sample pack, I played the Mellotron sample and it somehow reminded me of those old shortwave radio idents, so picked up on that as a central theme. I usually do funky, so this time looked to use some straightforward but VERY crunched drums. Finding the old Radio Sweden idents and clips was fun, but the tempo's were all over the place so had to do some major manipulation to get it to all fit together. Also remembered the nights as a kid listening to all these faint weird radio stations (younger types probably don't know anything that doesn't 'stream') and remember how spooky and surreal it all was - I worried about how I would use the Rachmaninoff sample but in the end it worked really well.

Anyway, I don't usually provide backstory but this time it seemed wise to :)

Enjoy

been a while since i've posted here, but i managed to conjure a minimalististic beet.  Haven't done much sampling in the last 3 months or so. That got me out of my comfortable synth zone, plus i messed around with some fx i normally don't.
