Have we forgotten about Nas killing him on the Ether track, He was straight up gunned in the mouth ? then he sign's Nas to his label (please don't muder and highlight my wackness in public again, here's a contract). Or was it a promo like wrestlers do ?. All bullshit and we hoover it all up.

He is overated for HIPHOP heads, and the underground.

He is in the right catergory for the mainstream Hip-pop.

Age of rappers ain't shit now. Nobody really gives a fuck. A lot of people came up with this hip hop shit and it's fitting that there are artists out there that still represent them.

I was talking specifically about Jay-Z. I'm 36 and I don't need a wealthy businessman approaching middle age representing me in hip hop. Thanks.

Jay Z doesn't "sample", he capitalizes.

Jay-Z, Biggie, and Busta all went to the same highschool. Biggie was rapping like that in 92-94, at least. Busta dropped Scenario in 91. Meanwhile Jay-Z was rapping like Jaz. Jay-Z has nothing. At that time, MF DOOM had already written 2 classic albums before he was 22

AND DOOM'S TWO YEARS YOUNGER THAN JAY-Z

I see honestly no argument for Jay-Z having any artistic merit, whatsoever. JF, you have the floor.

well the outcome of this thread was already pre-determined by the title, but i think it's very obnoxious for people like GP to assume that their opinion is the only viable one that could exist in the world.

i mean, whatever...i listen to Jay-Z and enjoy some of his songs still, most of you don't.

i made all my points, and i feel as though they speak for themselves; if you reject them, then i guess that's that.

but it's really not too shocking for me to realize i have a differing opinion than you guys in something as broad as music -- i'm pretty sure i've held unpopular viewpoints in like half the threads on this message board haha.

what rapper over 40 hasn't fallen off?

el-p is 40, killer mike 39. I think they're both doing the best work of their careers right now (if not on par with fantastic damage, i love that album to much...)

this is a redundant statement. Please continue.

edit: KA is also 41 and still spitting fire

I'll lay it out real simple for you. Jay Z used to be aight. Then he realised at one point or another that the songs he put the least effort in to lyrically got the best response publicly so he kept talking about he's bank roll and people kept buying in to it. People seem to like really wealthy people talking about how much money they have (i know... I don't get it either), what people don't seem to like so much are the ones who talk about how much paper they have when they ain't have any (that one i get), we call them types of people: Pete Marriott.

So Jay Z just did the easy thing. He took the money. It's quiteeeee common in music. But yeah, some of his earlier shit was alright at one point or another. Nothing groundbreaking or revolutionary, just the right place and the right time. Discussing how certain people got extremely wealthy or successful when you think they didn't deserve it will keep you broke (and make you go mentally insane)

well...lone ninja posted a quote on his Facebook the other day saying basically "20% of fans really admire the music and skill behind it while 80% admire the lifestyle/envious of the persona". I think that can about sum up the Jay-Z ethos post-Bueprint(which I really liked for the most part but after that its rubbish)....

"YEAH KEEP THOSE ROCS IN THE AIR
I DO IT FOR YOU" fucks model in private jet while laughing maniacally

He's saying this to the very people he would try to sell crack to in '88. He's a hypocrite. A liar. A thief. All of these things are what America stands for.

"Peacoat revolutionary lane"

Glad I said this, because with the release of Tidal,

Hurrdurr, We're artists, we own the company.

Socialism by the elites. Called that shit
