So I mentioned I own black bastards (my only vinyl) on a youtube comment and had a reply of someone desperate to buy it. Did some research and it ranges from $12 to $180. I'm not that interested in selling it but is it that rare

it's not super rare, but it's out of print and there were just a couple in-depth articles about it so i've noticed interest (and price) have been peaking recently...

i've never understood whether Black Bastards is 100% bootleg - being an Elektra records master, never released by Elektra - or just partially bootleg, meaning that Doom has released it through Fondle 'Em & other labels while other pressings are not licensed by Doom.

Anyway, it's rare in that it's out of print.  It's not rare in that it's not very sought-after.  It will be in print again soon from what I know.

First version was Fondle 'Em  (not on discogs, because discogs is just a dumb user-generated website)

Second version was "Ready Rock" (i've never seen this version, but i seen it mentioned on the www)

Third Version was Sub Verse.  (Doom has said some bad things about Sub Verse's Operation Doomsday.)

each of these were a few years apart.  after that I think there was a bootleg, probably made from a CD of a previous release.

The Readyrock version was actually the first release of the album. Elektra gave the masters to DOOM and paid him cash to leave the label. It's uncertain whether the masters were used to create the album you hear.

There were cassettes flying around at the time (of the full album). I wonder if one of these were used as maybe DOOM lost those masters, or maybe it was just that the DAT tape became degraded, as everyone agrees that the sound quality isn't the greatest.

I think perhaps the Readyrock one was a full bootleg, spurring DOOM on to release it himself on Subverse.

It's the metal face 2001 print. I don't think I payed much for it at the time but I was on the doll so it still made me skint. It's only been played once or twice since I don't own turntables

There's one on Fondle Em release which was the "Black Bastards Ruffs & Rares" release.  It's been so long since I've played it that I forgot it wasn't actually the same album

^ That's just an EP with a few cuts, not the full album release.

I have both pressings; actually got the first edition for free back in '05 from a record store I used to work at. The manager gave me a stack of hip hop LPs and it was in there. I flipped my lid in the middle of the store. I bought my buddy's collection a few weeks ago and he had the repress.

I have the OG version that's printed backwards.  (probably worth something)  Also have the Ruffs and Rares EP.

Don't remember anything backwards. You mean upside down? I remember the label/release info being upside down.

All this talk of Black Bastards made me buy the Ready Rock vinyl.

Had the Subverse on vinyl and cd already, but wanted the OG pressing, lol.

So do we know if this new release of BB is a remastered version or not. Wondering what the source material for the remaster was? ST Bot, any info?

^^^Yeah.  That and the sound quality were another reason why I was pissed and thought I was tricked into buying another bootleg.  (like when I bought an import 2XLP of Large Pro's LP in 2000ish)
