Trying to find a copy of those Strong Arm Steady instrumentals on wax, impossible to buy now  :(

Shouldn't have slept on those, listening to it on Google Play and the record without vocals is fantastic. Always thought it was one of Madlib's best produced records but hadn't really thought about listening to just the beats until this thread lol

I'm about to drop 40 bucks on them from some European dude possibly, so if anyone wants to make some money here instead let me know! Wish it could get repressed but that's not happening I imagine.

Ha yeah that cover is awesome. I'm just bummed I missed out on buying this, even saw it in record store last year and was like "meh, I'll grab that later"

That's how I'm feeling about Axel F's 'Theme Music'. One of the local spots had it but now it's sold out everywhere.

It's that time of the year that I'm hooked to Madlib's mixtape mekka (Medicine Show, Mind Fusion, Speto, DJ Rels and all other stuff). It made me think; we haven't seen much new mixtape related stuff since Black Soul (more than 4 years ago). I really hope something new comes up in the near future. Speto 2? Mixes that didn't made the MMS series in the end?

All of those mixes pretty much became soundtracks to my life. But like the beats I'm pretty sure there's more mixtape related stuff out there...ready to be heard :D

What ever happened to labels like Blue Note and Trojan letting Madlib make mixes from
their catalog? Would love to have a Detroit house label let Madlib dig through their collection for a mix or three.

Thanks Liv for the mixcloud link!

I'm just wondering if the date is correct though....

It isn't listed on the old bbc website, however a special studio guest Madlib & Peanut Butter Wolf is listed for June 2002... could it be that mix?

http://www.bbc.co.uk...tings2002.shtml

http://www.stonesthr...aight-no-chaser

Madlib is in London playing with Stones Throw's Peanut Butter Wolf, spinning at Bar Rumba and guesting on Radio One's Worldwide programme. During the latter, he dropped some new productions that have clearly been inspired by his West London brethren.

Judging from the footage this was filmed quite some time ago, but was just uploaded last month. The vid goes quickly through different eras in Madlib's career, the usual Lootpack, Quas stuff, with some unfortunately dubbed comments from Madlib in between. No subtitles either, so it's a pretty great interview video to put in the internets. At least you get to pick you preference:

German

French

If anything, check 7:57: Crowds reaction to the "Music is silence too" Sun Ra piece is pretty funny.

Think I remember reading here too about shows where most/some of the crowd seemed to get wierded out, having no idea what they were hearing...for whatever reason.

What Madlib tracks got that time-stretched warble?
(Besides the few tracks on Pinata)

I'm bumping the instrumental version of 'A Lil' Light' by Dudley Perkins right now and the song 'Lil' Black Boy' definitely sounds like it has that time stretch/warble sound.

It seems you can find anything with Shazam these days, so much for crate digging :P But I ID'd most of my favorite tracks now from the GP mix. I just added another part to my life soundtrack. Can't get enough of this!

Guys, I've been going through my vinyl collection lately and found my OJ Simpson record. When it came out a lot of people didn't really fuck with it and said it was average at best. I didn't really enjoy it that much on my first spins, too. It had some nice tracks, but overall wasn't cutting it for me.

Now years have passed and I listened again. I like it a lot more now and this thought came up: could this be Madlib's more street version of Madvillainy? Both OJ Simpson and Madvillainy have some similarities: both are fairly unorthodox, Beat interludes, one main vocal act.

I guess this comparision is a big of a strech...but eh, just random train of thought *kanyeshrug*

^ i feel like the same argument could be applied to most of his collaborative projects though.

by that logic, MMS#9 is like Madvillainy Vice

I've always loved me some OJ, skits and all. My understanding is that its just a way for The Madlib to avoid having wack mofuckas rap on his incredibly dope beats made for X record.
