Hey, long time lurker, first time poster. I'm going to be in Ethiopia, mostly Addis Ababa, for about a week, soon. Wondering if anybody knows some hot places to dig in Addis? There's got to be places, right?

Welcome to the forums!

Lucky you, I'd love to go digging in Ethiopia.

Never been there but I was intrigued so I did some research

First there seems to be a big open flee market in Addis Ababa called The Merkato, and there are apparently some small record shops in there: https://www.flickr.c...abo/2295747755/

There is a record store called Mitmitta Musika in Addis too, here's their website: http://mitmitta.tumblr.com/

Finally here's what someone who has dug in Addis before and is familiar with Ethiopian artists has to say about the subject: http://www.addistune...e=news_page.tpl

Hope you'll enjoy your trip and find some gems!

One thing I can add of sure is that Ethiopians are the coolest people in the World. I share the same spiritual following so it is really easy to bond instantly. ask a cab driver when You get there. Lying and committing sin are things that no self respecting Ethiopian family will ever do.

For further edification-there are is a wider racial/ethnic make-up of the Ethiopian. About Seven in number-inclusive of Somali. The fact that they one of the oldest living civilizations on earth has made them vulnerable to attack by various Western societies. I have to believe that the intent of the mostly secular world is evil.

I guess the imperialist 'Italians' ventured over there to occupy for a spell. so their culture is debased for fear that the public would know who the bad people really are...

Damn. Thanks, even for the jokes. What should I be doing and seeing when I'm in the country Mwboogie? Other than scourging for records.

Yeah u can probably find records at Merkato, but it's the biggest market in whole Africa (u can buy literarily everything over there, from camels to kalashnikovs). So u have to  know where to look. And second, i would recommend to have a local person with u that can back u up and knows the language so he/her can negotiate for u , when visiting Merkato.

I had great results by just putting an add in a newspaper. Good look. And enjoy Ethiopia, make sure u visit butcher street ;) And have a Avocado Juice for breakfast every morning! And also make sure u visit the fish restaurant on the market. Ask the them for the best fish restaurant and they will show u where to find it!

Peace
