STBB 387

drums & basses week

sample 1: wav / mp3

sample 2: wavmp3

Rules:

1. use one or both of the samples

2. outside drums: sure! but have you heard the samples?

3. outside bass: allowed

4. acapellas/scratches OK

5. no keys

I get that there are some loopholes here to exploit but just do what you do and make it sick.

Drums + bass, any style.

Thank you so much for the votes.

Downloaded samples and got to work, then read this (Doh!) - I thought it needed to be drum and bass driven haha!

Ahh well, heres my effort - I've never made a beat at this tempo before so good rules as its completely out of my comfort zone of 86-94 bpm  ;)

(Used both samples, outside bass, cuts and a kick / snare)

Finallly home and able to get back on the beat train. Great to come back to a BMC win. Quick question though it;s already been asked a few times. You cannot use any other elements but drums and bass correct?

Yeah - focus is purely drums and bass. I allowed scratches and acapellas so there are some loopholes there but I'm not worried about them. Same with using "bass" sounds but traveling up into the treble range.. loophole.

I think voters will just go with what feels best :)

Welcome back!!

Been lurking for a while and planning on taking part in my 1st beat battle, so hello everyone.

Does the rule for "no keys" mean no synths or just no piano-type melodies?

usually means no external keys, (outside of the provided samples) pianos/organs/synths etc etc (whether virtual instrument or another sample). You can feel free to chop the provided samples up and pitch them to make your own keys & melodies though.
