This may seem like a silly question, but I wonder: Do releases like Madvillain and Further Adventures get mixed before they're released? I'm not talking about Madlib turning up volume levels on his analog machines, either—I mean legitimately mixed by an engineer.

ST, maybe more so than any other label out right now, truly embraces the lo-fi, sizzled sound, so I'm just wondering. Maybe mixing is too polished?

Of course they do man. Two words: Dave Cooley.

If you watch that old RBMA lecture with Egon interviewing The Madlib Egon makes a point of saying something along the lines of 'The cost to the label is pretty minimal because the artists make the stuff in their own homes/bedrooms then ST invests in the mixing and mastering'.

Ah, very cool. Just looked on his website, and it says he mixed M83's first record, too. Talk about being versatile; that thing is about as polished and big sounding a record can get.

Most of the producers mix their own tracks. Dave Cooley far from our exclusive engineer to mix and master records, but he has mastered many. Kelly Hibbert has mixed and/or mastered many. Daddy Kev mixed and mastered Rap Album One. Matthewdavid has worked on many recent releases. Vinyl & CD releases have all the credits.
