I'm really geeking about this. Mndsgn is one of my favorite producers. I did a short blog article last year that has my Mndsgn Youtube playlist with a bunch of his dopest tunes http://beatperday.co...gn-mind-design/

Nce, I'd stumbled across that entry on your blog before whilst searching mndsgn stuff, good work.

He's totally taking over my summer listening. I feel a bit silly for not taking notice befoe he got the ST seal of approval though. Dude has been very prolific so I got some catching up to do (and some $ to spend on bandcamp - by the time Yawn Zen drops, I'll be broke!)

I'll be honest. I heard the Surface outtakes and this doesn't sound like the kind of Mndsgn that I like to hear. It's less hip-hop/electronic and more like...weird sounds he can make with his synths/meditation music lol. Oh well.

Yeah, that was my first impression too, a bit noodly and ethereal, but then I figured that's what you get for an outtakes album/ep! However it really has improved with repeated listenings, admittedly more than half the tracks fall in that wierd synth sounds bracket, but they are mostly short interlude type things. For me the tracks 'Eating Starfruit', 'Eggs', 'Goodbye Wavs', Overwhelming Gratitude' and 'Purrspective' are all well worth the money spent. In fact I am indeed overwhelmingly grateful for Overwhelming Gratitude - lovely piece of music.

KTO is fuckin' NICE! His new album has an Aceyalone feature. THe man's got talent. I think it's corny how everyone's trying to wear a mask now, but Koreatown Oddity's got something special.

That's funny, this is a Mndsgn thread, and in the Breakfast video he peaces out a quarter of the way into it. I guess he had some shit on his laptop he wanted to share, but Knx kind of stole the show as far as playing music.

Koreatown Oddity bringing some heat with records from his Dad's collection. Those were ill. Made me think he has a good ear for sampling. So I checked out his catalog. It's kind of scattered. He's got a new tape out (Snake Sheddings) on Strictly Cassette's BigCartel site. I had a listen on their Bandcamp page and it was okay. His older stuff on his Soundcloud is dope. The Buzzmixer's Revenge tape of his is sick! Dirty loops and gritty drums, my taste for music. Now I got to hunt down the cassettes.

Feels is my favorite album of his, and probably his most accessible. If you want something more adventurous, Breatharian is probably his most "experimental" tape.

Hmm. I guess Feels would be a good start then, but Breatharian sounds interesting too. I usually don't like to preview tracks on an album before I buy, but it seems like I might have to here. Thanks!

Funny, i guess we all hear different things, but I thought Breatharian was very accessible and easy to get into, I streamed it on bandcamp for a few weeks before I bought the cassette & download (31 tracks!) and since then I've been absolutely hammering it, honestly I can't remember the last time I listened to a new album so much for so long, I cannot recommend it enough. Exts I thought was much more experimental, not so keen on that one.

Feels is very good too, but don't overlook ObliqueKitchn or NoMaps, both have some excellent tunes on them.

One of my favourites:

I ended up grabbing Breatharian because I was torn between it and Feels, but Breatharian was longer. It was certainly as dope as I was expecting. It didn't seem too overly experimental or anything, and felt plenty accessible. I look forward to checking out feels next, and then possibly Oblique Kitchen or NoMaps. And of course Yawn Zen..

The new tape called "Surface Outtakes" is pretty cool I think. it's some pretty weird and experimental stuff, but it's probably one of the best releases from Mndsgn yet, and I like it even better than Yawn Zen (heard the leak, I'm sorry).

anybody here hip to his old shit????  like, 2010 and before...haven't heard much discussion in this thread about those days.  i remember first stumbling upon him the same i retroactively discovered glitch-hop with cats like Juno Akasawa and...others (can't remember anyone else).  but yeah, i remember listening to one of his super old tapes back then and buggin' out, i even wrote a track to one of the beats i had of his.

I think the earliest stuff of his that I've heard is Lights & Tunnels and Skrayons from 2009. Shit is dope, didn't sound too glitchy for me, his beats were maybe a little crisper (Dilla-esque?) back then but his sound hasn't changed massively to my ears since then - no bad thing imo. To be honest I've been concentrating so much on listening to his later stuff, need to find more time to have a proper opinion on the older stuff.

Incidentally did anyone check out the latest edition of his Boiler Room Breakfast Show? Great music again, this time with Sir Froderick & Swarvy bringin' the special guest heat. Sir Froderick is the shit, anyone else here copped his SubtlWhoadi LP? Craaaazy beats. Another cat who does some cool cut & paste work for his sleeves. Suppose it goes hand in hand with cut & paste beats.

I love Froderick as well. Wish I had the ends to cop his vinyl, maybe someday. That KNX/Frodrerick release from a few years back is one of my favorite releases from the two though. That's got the hot shit.

Mndsgn did some dope production on the upcoming LP from Ivan Ave called Low Jams on Jakarta Records.

Got smooth, mellow-paced beats.

You can pre order the vinyl at: http://jakartarecord.../album/low-jams

It gets released in September but you can stream the whole album in Bandcamp.
