Seems like a dope VST.. a little cheesy with the design, but it is free so I can't complain.....

I'm using Reason so I have a filter and all sorts of distortion possibilities, but I usually only give it the effect of a half inch tape

I had this plugin way back in '99 with FL version 2. lol.  It's old but you can get some good sounds. The distortion is nice, but the delay kinda sucks.

Yo, JF here's link for the PC version.

This is the first resonant filter vat that I've ever used, and I still rely on this shit from time to time.  Filters give samples that early 90's feel when you drop the highs and throw drums over it

Black Moon's Enta Da Stage, and that whole era just plowed on the hi cut filter. Results are rough but comfy.

Haha! Here I'll give you a run down on what I know.

Resonant filters are just a EQ cut, whether it's a Lowpass (cuts the highs), Highpass (cuts the lows), or Bandpass (cuts lows and highs), and adds a EQ boost (resonance) at the frequency where the cut is. You can do this with an equalizer that has low and high cutoffs and a adjustable Q (curve) or a resonance filter.

Filtering basslines is kinda hit or miss. It depends on what your filtering. It doesn't work when there isn't much bass present in the first place, or when there's too much going on in the mid section, especially the low mids, or when loud drums are in the low end. You usually just get mud, of course, this could still work for your track.

Tips I've learned are: Try to go for samples that don't have much going on in the midsection. You can always get rid of those high highs, but not the low mids. Also, if you have a dull filtered bassline you can always layer another bass on top if you can play the same notes. Then EQ some of the low end out on it. Sometimes it helps converting the sample to mono to clear it up, especially on early stereo recordings where they've hard panned the bass to only one channel. (You can do this Reason without having to use an external wave editor. Drop a Audio Merger & Splitter on the rack. Say your bass is mostly in the left channel, route just the left channel from your instrument to the input on the merger and then both outputs back to the mixer. This will give you 2 left channels.)

Sometimes I drop a EQ on the sample before the filter to cut even more of those unwanted frequencies out.
