You got a point there buddy...., but don't get so caught up with it... just have fun and let the best beat win....there is always going to be a slight advantage for the one picking the sample.

Hey, my bad I'm still a newb here you know. I did make 374's entry on Saturday, as per my previous post I was out of town last weekend hence I could not create. I guess this will be a non entry!

I was trying to show Joa had flipped his joint a month previously, I didn't realize he put it in as a non-entry. Anyways, I'll go ahead and DQ myself for this week, although I can not see anything about having to create the beat between Saturday and Wednesday. :D

Weekly Beat Battles at the Stones Throw Message Board.

Anyone can participate.

Each Saturday a sample is posted in the Beat Battles forum for beat makers to work. The beats must be posted on a Soundcloud group by Wednesday. Voting takes place on the board Thursday. The winner chooses the sample and sets rules for the next battle. The Beat Battles are run entirely by users of the Stones Throw Message Board.

.

Further details are in the Rules thread where this quote was originally taken from...

You've still got time to work on another beat though... something quick.

OK, so what if it so happened that someone posted a sample that someone previously had 'worked'? "Hey! I already 'worked' that sample, let me post this right quick." ^_^  I'm sure that isn't the case very often, as I've been here a few weeks and heard really diverse samples. Basically it just boils down to 'scout's honor' or some other such cliched term. This is just the failed paralegal in me thinking.

I'll see what I can whip together before Wednesday though!

Yeah it shouldn't be a big deal, especially if he's busy. He did have the "voted for" best beat last week, he should be cut some slack. But if everyone thinks it's against the rules, so be it, I guess.

lol, I doubt anybody would put up the same sample.... If I ever won.. i'd probably try to put the hardest thing to sample and see how it gets flipped by others...I got a shit load of songs I don't even know where to begin with lol

I think he means i.e ''you've already flipped a sample that was featured in a battle, so instead of working on something new, you post the joint you have already" ..at least that's how I interpreted it

Well if that's the case, then yeah, maybe people do that at times, but that's a bigger slap in the face for them if they don't win lol

...Hey Scott... yeah, scouts honor, integrity...whathaveyou...

I'm just trying to convey the values of this forum to the, as you put it, 'newbs'.

About not being able to find the actual rule... It's logical right... there's four days to flip the sample...would be a an unfair advantage if someone had the chance to work on it for longer right? ...defeats the purpose...

I wouldn't call your submission a DQ though.. just appealing to your "Scotts Honor" ;) to make it a 'non entry'

It does say 'one beat per person' in the default rules though...

I hope you don't feel agrieved... and you might come up with a better one! ;)

peazy J.

The whole thing is based around Jimmy Smith's Hammond. It just sounded so fuckin lush. I just sprinkled it with some drums, tons of bass, and a few new sample chops here and there. Radiohead's "My Iron Lung" was sort of compulsory so I threw in some subtle guitar chops. And then... why not a bit more of Thom Yorke. Not sure about the final result as when I dwell around the 130 bpm area I always end up sounding a bit monotone imo.

But then after the storm... comes the calm.

Congrats Scottie was some serious dopeness last week, so as an homage to you I had to flip the My Iron Lung sample you know. Other sample is Joa's from the week before with that crazy prog rock tune.

Hope you guys enjoy:

missed last week,

wasnt gonna post this week either, but everyone was postin such dope shit,

i couldnt not post:

the mix down was pretty half hearted

and its a little over the "time limit"

but the drums are all original,.

i used the battle sample, a couple background cuts from a VICE documentary about this dude who was a murderer but then became a painter

and obviously badu as the vox cut

Got a big smile listening to all these flips! Definitely one of my favorite Jimmy Smith songs and you all did not disappoint. I will have to jam out to some guitar tomorrow when I listen through again to narrow my vote list.

Thanks a lot for the sample Scottie and grats on the win.

Here is my attempt:

I used a piece of Jamiroquai's - blow your mind. Guess it's not that far away genre-wise, but it was the best I could find :)

Peace
