I thought delay or reverb is only allowed when it doesn't stack with other sounds, so you can't let a sound ride out on the delay or reverb and play drums over it... You can however delay 'manually' and play drums in between. Or put a heavy sidechain on the drums.

I interpreted it as: one layer / one sound at a time for a whole track, regardless of the effects you choose to use.

To answer your questions as they've come up:

1) Single synth notes are fine, chords are not.

2) FX are totally fine, just not in a way that breaks rule 6. So like.. sidechain good. Delay bad.

3) Grifty and Birddrop wanted to layer an acapella over an otherwise monophonic beat. It sounds so nice that I'm allowing it. You have the option of including your acapella in the single-sound system, or layering it on top. Acapellas only though.

yeah, you're right. saying "delay bad" was not 100% correct, just catchy sounding. use any fx and methods you want, just don't break rule 6.

...Okido... what I did is chop all my tracks in my secuencer into tiny snippets and more a less made a mozaique on the grid of the different bits ;)

...it almost seems like continuous sound in some areas as they follow eachother so quickly...

...The clue I found in the youtube video I posted is.  A choir singing the same part is monophonic..

...so in parts I panned the same bit of the sample to the left and right and kept one in the middle and eq'd them differently.....as in a choir all the people don't have the same voice either..

...I didn't consider it layering as it's three time the same sound... so panning..

...To be sure I sidechained the drums a little because they are a tad longer than the little snippets... but they are in the gaps

...and then there's my raps of course ;)

All the sounds are from the provided sample, except for the kick.

Wow crazy rules, I'm definitely going to try to put something together by the deadline.

Can I layer the same chop? (e.g. I have a dry version and then maybe I have a crazy efxed out version, but they are both triggered at precisely the same time.)

Basically I'm trying to bend caveat one to the point of breaking.

Love to do this but I'm banning myself for 2 weeks as I made a beat last week, didn't vote and only had time to listen up to page 3, thought I'd do this considering:

A: an example needs to be set

B: The battle faq is still in limbo and has not been sorted to deal with the bigger issues we were trying to sort out.

Bit confused how we got a whole thread going with loads of ideas to make this really good and the only thing altered is the dam time zone.

...Haha.. I don't think punishing yourself is really necessary Ode' ;)

As that topic has spread into this thread I'd like to say that... To me it seems enough of a rule to have beats announced on this forum...

It will get people involved and more likely to vote... turnout has been good recently right?

Do you really want such a harsh regime of - Voting equals a right to enter the following week?

How about peeps that didn't vote get 'tagged' / listed... and we can choose not to listen to their beats next time...           (although I don't know how to organize the technical side of that)

Seems like a good incentive to vote...?

I feel there has to be a sense of free will about it

lol, why is everyone using,as it seems, the same idea as jondis. There is plenty of room for creativity this round. Ahhhaaa, there is like 10 submissions with same exact note and side chain for drum and bass. I guess imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Sorry if I offended any artists but just noticed when listening to the pages.

'No Mo Mono Please'

Tough week! Tried my best, just used some choke groups and some side chain compression. Not really happy at all with my results, but a challenge is always good. Looking forward to peeping what everyone else did.

You killed it last week Breakmaster! Shuffling the deck, and the different sequences left me in a daze (kinda like these rules,) but it's always fun to challenge yourself and learn. I apologize for not voting for 372. Won't happen again.
