One of my buddies is a CISCO certified network engineer and everytime his work gives him an Apple product he makes damn sure to put Windows on it. Dude knows more about computers than anyone I've ever met and he absolutely refuses to use Apple.

Just my two cents...

this kind of proves my point about mac being the choice of creatives.

pc users can't even think up their own posts, have to borrow from others lol.

I thought we'd moved on from this, but thank you for your valued contribution anyway.

Not really, was on phone and didn't feel like repeating what others said. I have a Macbook Pro I use at work and a kick ass Windows gaming PC at home. I prefer Windows machines as you can get a lot more bang for your buck. People who have a hard time with PCs (viruses, broken parts, etc) are usually morons. The same kind of morons who bought into Apple's Mac vs PC ads lol

Edit:

This video sums up how I view 90% of Mac users

All depends on your specs, editing video requires better hardware whether you're using a Mac/Windows machine. You can typically (aka almost always?) get better specs far cheaper on Windows machines vs Apple stuff. I'd rather edit videos on desktop either way.

That's ok Grifty.

While we are on the topic of computers, can't wait for the day we can talk to instruct them. They already have the Iron Man technology where one can physically reach in and move objects around, with there hands, the objects, being holograms, representing files, mercy in your computer. Change the size of things, zoom in.

Programming is very interesting as nothing is really impossible. In 40 yeas time we will shit ourselves out how old Timey our stuff is.

exactly. you're welcome to your opinion, whatever works for you is cool.

I'd hate to see your reaction if I insulted your mother instead of your motherboard lol.

it's funny, i just looked at those laptop links you posted and you may have a point on that one - shit, the mac doesn't even have a cd/dvd-drive. incredible. to me that's just plain stupid. They've gone too far this time.

Windows 8 still sucks though. well in my opinion anyway.

People who hate on windows 8 are usually bandwagoning everyone who says that. The UI maybe strange or awkwerd at first but it is a lot safer, faster and has more features. Windows os isnt fantastic, and Mac os is supposedly better. But linux is a mix of both with more.

I wondered how long it'd be before someone brought linux into the equation.

I have a PC at home running Windows 8  and I just don't like the interface at all. I can't comment on safety or compare speed but if you like using it then great. I wasn't aware of any bandwagon though.

The same kind of morons who bought into Apple's Mac vs PC ads lol

same for the apple hype - i didn't buy into that, for me it's the simple fact that for my industry (Graphic Design) the mac is the standard. Things may have changed now, but back when I was working in a large studio no one would have even thought about using anything else for the job.

The windows pc's were for the accountants or maybe sometimes to run a printer or ISDN line (showing my age right there). Problems with these computers were indeed often caused by morons and idiots using them - there's always some in any office or studio. However the same morons and idiots could use the macs without causing the same problems. I just know which computers we had to spend time sorting due to problems (Windows) and which ones never gave us much shit (most of the macs, hey out of 30 or so there's always gonna be a duff one!). When you're charging the client more than $250 an hour for your time, these things become quite important and you just want something that gets the job done with minimum fuss.

Obviously for home use and gaming, the Windows stuff is going to appeal more due to the price. Home users who buy mac are indeed burning money on a status symbol but in my posts I was always speaking from the perspective of a creative professional. Does anyone have a problem with that? Christ I hope not, this is getting boring...

GC90 - I can't front, the guy in that video is a dick, no question. not me though. I'm sure 90% of windows users are coksuckers too. We're lucky to be the elite 10% ha ha.

Still, it's hard to believe tempers get so frayed over petty shit like computers smh.

to paraphrase someone:

'you need to smoke more, brethren.'

good advice I'm off for one now. breakfast of champions...

Everything is a marketable tool to gain your attention to have rows over opinions about that Myth "The Best", the companies won't mind as they probably gain and lose customers both sides everyday, they wow us with their tech advances that are stale by the time we get it, my experience is nothing ever bloody works how it should, new releases of anything needs fixing or updating, or re-doing, I personally fucking hate Apple, they have nothing positive to add, they have pushed the mp3 which are shit, their equipment is over priced, and is usually made so you become a walking advert for the company"Oooh look at me with my I-wack", and it breaks and that's it, they would go away fairly quickly if people would stop giving money over to a company, that really doesn't give a fuck what you think, apple stores are the new starbucks, and do seem to be an addiction to people, Mac is mainstream, what we do artistically is not mainstream, why do we then give blood oaths to corporate companies, that are more than ready to shaft you at every corner.

Mac's are like the New Era cap faze

Just need to realize they really ain't all that, they're a company, P.C's aren't... how many companies make P.C's, might view things different if it was a "Sony Mac" "Lenovo Mac", that will happen like Tupac coming back from the dead this year !!

ˆi feel you ODK, Apple has become another corporate devil, but don't pretend that Microsoft is some small family ethical business doing everything for the good of the consumer. They're all mainstream and none of them give a fuck what we think and they're all shafting us big time but what choice do we have? They've got us by the short & curlies my man.

they already tried something similar with the mac clones in the mid-nineties. but you're right, it doesn't look like they'll be trying that again in a hurry.

dunno if anyone could make decent music with this, seems nice and ethical to me:

Yeah Microsoft are no better, no pretending from me as I didn't even get going on them, some small ethical family business  you said it for me, but we can make music without computers, sampler....mixer.....to tape or four track etc, we rely on stuff to much, and things needing to be easy.

Weird mang.

I would say grab an external hard drive. My elephant hard drive was a wise investment. That being said, are you running windows as well? Why else would you need to partition?

is there a way to back-up data where the external hard drive recognizes files you've already copied over and then just brings in the files that have been made since the last back-up?  i know it seems simple (and i'm sure it is), but it never works for me and my hard drives.  makes backing up shit a total pain, because i usually just get lazy and delete everything off the hard drive and re-copy everything every time...not very efficient.

You'll need an application that indexes your drives and adds only new files.  Go to this site and check out this app called "Cathy".  It's free.       http://www.techsuppo...nizer.htm#Cathy

I'm not biased when it comes to operating systems.  At work I use Arch, CentOS, Ubuntu, and Windows.  At home I own two Macs and a PC.  They all serve their purposes.  To me it seems as if someone has a bad experience with a particular operating system they tend to bash it.  Windows has its problems with how it's has way too many security holes, Mac has its issues with how they tend to make older hardware obsolete too quickly, and Linux doesn't have good driver support (depending on the distro, of course).

I'm trying to figure out a way to pull the 32-bit libraries from older OS X versions and push them onto Mavericks.  OS X is based on Unix, so there's got to be a way to do it.  This would probably solve most of the problems that people are experiencing with this update.  Apple locks down their kernels but I'm sure that there's a way to work around it.
