I'm new around here so HI been interested in entering one of these for a couple of weeks now. Here's my entry. Made entirely from the supplied sample. Only things added outside the sample were the bassline, vocals (fifth element) and drums (me bashing my fist against my desk...)

Enjoy! :)

Been lurking on here for a while, and thought it was about time I posted something. Plus I was diggin the rules for this week.

Recorded all the sounds with my 404's mic, and added some effects.

Im gonna try and answer some questions. Feel free to disagree with me.

So I can use drums that were recorded inside?

I think the main objective this week is to create ur own drums. So nothing prerecorded.

How do we know people havent faked the drums ???

We can't be 100 percent sure, but ears go a long way.
+
A post here explaining ur strategy in short would be nice as well, as a lot of people did already

used the crash from the song, recorded my own snare and kick drum from my drum set with my yeti usb mic, additional percussion sounds were a set of wooden spoons.

damn was suprised by the sounds you could get from bashing household objects.
stood in front of the mxl 300 hitting milk cartons and shit, put that through a slicer and pitched things down(?), EQ + compression and somethin else
dumped that onto a keyboard and came up with a couple drum beats.
gotta do this more often haha.

anyway my entry for this

threw in a few samples from the movie u turn afterwards, wasnt too sure how to go about it but yeah.
liking these weird rules though, changes the beatmaking process up a bit.

first timer
be harsh

apart from the original sample, i flipped a small piece from Watership Down and a little snip from a Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas audio-book
Percussion is all original and recorded from my bedroom.
sounds range from pen taps, to finger snaps,
blowing in to the mic, hitting a honey bottle, metal knife against water pipe, the shaking of a full pill bottle, and the tapping of an empty one, as well as many other small noises

many thanks
and peace to you

Had fun with this one, Only took two notes from the whole thing. I used a sample from Memento. Drums turned out alrite after eqing, heaps of reverb and experimentation

Enjoy...

kick = just a bump on a sm 58, snare is a flip-lock from a door, then claps, snaps, broken tambourine and a little shaker + lots of eq and compression.

intro-sample, one of my favorite movies, cheech and chong.

Nothing else but the provided sample

Enjoy

It quite entertaining to read all the posts this week :D Long live the creativity. I had problems with my mic. In anger I pulled it out of the sampler. This created a nice sound – my kick.

Well, it's been a while since I've even tried sampling a melody so this is a little uninspired. All of the percussion was made with Live's Operator synth (hat, kick, snare.) This was good exercise. :)

Been a while. I sampled a little part in the beginning and played it. I've beatboxed the kick and the snare, did some snaps and worked them, layered the kicks with the bass from the sample. Also sampled a chain. I don't know how bad the mix is because I didn't have my headphones with me, so I apologize in advance.

done! thanks again six and lsb for some good rules. this was fun as hell.

it's all in the info but..
KICKS = two books slapped together for the high end, thumping an empty plastic dogfood container for the low. + some parallel compression. layered handclaps together with a burst of vinyl hiss to make it bright. added jingling keys, shook a length of chain, shuffled a deck of cards, shook two pill bottle as a shaker, banged pots and pans, busted a glass with a hammer, wound up a metronome, rolled a jar off a table... yeah.

Made some synth drums layered with a bin, and then threw some beatboxing on top.
