To all the producers out there.

I've been dealing with this issue lately where I can't seem to finish a lot of beats. I either get bored, start a new beat and forget about it or I just can't be bothered to finish a beat.

Anyone else dealing with this? How do you deal with it?

Same thing happens all the time lol

You can try the following

Reverse the beat (sounds really different)

Chop and screw it (if you dont know, its basically slowing the whole thing sown by like half and pitching it down. Then adding a delay every now and then)

Resample the whole thing

Rap on it

Delete it and move on

It's been happening to me since day one. I mostly finish my STBB entries. I don't know really, sometimes I just think that the beat I'm currently working on could turn out great and I finish it, then I listen to it on repeat and I end up almost hating it lol. If it's only a nasty loop that I laid down then I leave it like that because I fear that I would mess it up if I started adding other things to it.

So whats makes the beat unfinished?

I went through a period where I would say stuff like "this beat is unfinished" but i would still let people listen to it and freestyle over it. I had to come to terms with the fact that when I walk way from a beat then that's the beat.

been happening for the last 14 years. only recently ive gone through them all and either deleted them cos they wernt that good to start with, stripped away all the shit and kept all the good bits for use in future productions or just started adding to it again trying to finish it

i call it "beat purgatory"...and it's not a pretty place on my laptop. it's like the Island of Misfit Toys, it's just sad looking at all these beats that i know are never going to be finished...or released even if they are.

A good 80% of my beats in my collection are unfinished because I'll get bored with it. I'll start on about 3 or 4 beats a night feeling one way but then i'll get inspired by some crazy shit the following night

I'll probably just loop it and rap over it.. or I throw it out... one of the two... by the time I go back to look at old ones i've already gotten so much better and picking samples that i'd think my older choices were horrible.

I look to Jesus.
He gives me the light I need.
Then I use that light to spark a doob.

Thanks my Mexican friend.

I rarely finish stuff. I got a bunch of half done lyrics that just collect everywhere. And my beats (which aren't very good) stay at a very fundamental stage. The fact is that when I progress, I abandon the older stuff because It's not as good. And I have ADHD which makes me jump around and get distracted.

I turn my projects into "Art Experiments", when I first started making beats, I wanted them to be "Good Hip-Hop beats", stuff people would want to rap over, but later on, almost unknowningly, I just dropped that attitude, I decided to have fun with my work, do things that I thought were interesting, innovative or charming.

It's really hard to explain, I just try not to get caught up in things and restrain myself too much. You gotta be free man.

Thanks, I took a big risk with the intro, a lot of people dismiss the rest after hearing it.

What I often do is find obscure and stupid vocal samples, make a story out of it, and throw all of my unused shit in the background, and end up having a crazy track of evolving beat, and it works wonders for me sometimes.
