'Alias is a show about a spy...' - Buster Bluth

So I'm just curious about how some of you came/come up with your aliases. Whether its a rap/producing moniker or even just your Internetz handles.

I've been using the same name when it comes to making beats for a little over a decade but I recently decided to switch it up to something new. Figured since I'm closing the door on one part of my life its a great opportunity to start with a fresh slate. Took me a few weeks but I finally came up with something I'm satisfied with.

What's your process?

I was looking for something impersonal. Something that sounded mechanical or 'robotic'. Not because of the way my music sounds or whatever (I like it when stuff sounds organic), but more because "it's just a name", on the other hand I didn't want it to sound too ironic because it's still the name people will know you by. Also, other stuff I came up with was worse. I've had a love-hate relationship with it ever since haha.

it's basically my actual name, first and middle.
i added the "-enstein" part only later on, and kept the period there to now signify an abbreviation, like Dr. is for doctor or Mr. is for mister...idk, just some stupid thing i came up with haha.

most people get it wrong though and don't realize that the period actually has a function. my actual stage name is 'James Frankenstein'...

Chason is my real name. But I use DJ Modern Savage as a moniker, which I got from Point Break, which is my favorite film of all time (if you couldn't tell)

I took Orchid because they are a unique and uncommon flower and I like to find and make unique and uncommon music. "The great" I took from a line in Ahmad's song 'Freak', he says "007 since I'm the great I'll be 008". I liked how it sounded together, not sure why, it's pretty feminine, but it stuck. I also wanted a name where you didn't get a preconceived thought of what my music would be like or who I was.

I could have been black, honey, mild, wild, banana, vanilla, original, sweet, or grape Woods, but they don't sound like proper names and honeyberry are my shizzle.

Actually now I thought about it, Wild Woods is kinda kool.

For me its just a shot out of heaven. Normally, I don't think about it. It just comes to me. There might be a reason, but usually a feeling more so. Why doYou ask? Are you looking to adjust? Set up a new evil alter ego?

Oh shit.
Love that shit.
If you want to debate it tho, please just scan thru the thread dedicated to it somewhere.

Anyhow, hot shit if you ask me. Visuals are questionable but so is Freddie's life style. Meaning, gun running, toting ect basically is not something I have ever been exposed to or care to be in my life. But, for anyone who has grown up with Scarface, or any mob flick, I can not see why this vid ain't cool. Does it cross the Backpackers Guide To Hip Hop, Rule : 113? Tho shalt not be violent?

Oh no I agree, I'm done talking about that dumb video lol.

Edit: (Quoted in last post because I agree with you ^ lol)

Related to OP: GC90 was my Halo abbreviation thingy (forgot what they called it, not Gamertag though). My gaming handle was guncrazy90 since middle school Halo 2 days, over the years "Gun" has become basically my second name (basically to the point that if someone refers to me as Gun, I will look in their direction lol).

Edit: #2 - waxramble has become my online handle when it comes to music, basically just my site name that describes what it was originally intended for (rambling about records). Took me forever to come up with though, had to do a billion domain searches and this was finally one I could buy at a reasonable price lol

I thought you get your name you don't choose it, kind of like ya parents picking the name for their kid. Did used to get called Gandelf then 2 hours later when someone was a bit more drunk in the pub we were in got their words backwards, and I was Dan-Gelf. Then about 2 years ago, I was at someones house, sensed this bookshelf was going to collapse on this kid, and pulled him out the way, another mate who was looking on said (In a typical british accent) " Fuckin Hell dude that was like some crazy Jedi reflex, we should call you Obi Dan Kenobi". I really respect the both the guys that came with these names, as their both related to being a wise guide as well, really nice that someone could see that and named me by that.

I been using Projexion as my DJ name for over ten years now. At the time I was tinkering around with old film projectors and liked the simple mechanics of how they projected an image. I thought about how in the same way, a DJ projects sounds onto an audience and.....fuckit I was just really high.

I came up with the name ras dude orginally as a xboxlive gamer tag a few years back before getting into any kind of producing. ras dude aka The Rastafarian-Dudeist. Two of my favorite religions, ways of life/ or philosophies rather, combined into one. I enjoy the preservation of roots and culture aspect of a Rasta and the ultra lazy/pacifist ways of the Dude. Not to mention the combination of these two philosophies require massive amounts of reefer to keep one's mind limber. No caps in the name to signify a lack self-importance.

When I first got a soundcloud I needed a name, said "fuck it", and stuck with it.

Can't imagine changing it, but it gets really fucking annoying when all these white kids say, "ras dude... you mean like Ras G?"
