I didn't get to Stones Throw in time to buy the Madvillain cassette.
They call it a "demo" tape. Do the tracks on it sound any different than on the Madvillainy album?
I was hoping maybe they're the cuts straight from Madlib's studio, without any engineering fingers touching it.

Anybody got a copy they might want to part with for sale?
I seen one on Discogs, but it's got a $80 price tag on it. Too rich for my blood.

MattCoops, no cassette is worth $80.

The Madvillainy demo is the first draft of the album that Madlib put together after Doom recorded enough tracks. All vocal takes are different, the interludes are different, and the sequencing is different. It's a rough mix, unmastered - not as good as the album turned out to be after Doom recorded more songs and perfected his vocal recordings. The demos are cool thing to hear, I'd never recommend hearing it on an $80 cassette.

We made this cassette originally as an extra little thing for the Madvillainy Remix box set.

I got one in the MV remix box set.

Never played it but apparently it's the demo that got leaked, I can't remember any differences besides a slightly different verse on Fancy Clown, like the last two lines are different.

Why not put it out for digital download then?

I picked up two of these (one for me/friend) when they went on sale on Cassette Day or whatever, was cool to hear the demo version but after listening I was pretty much done with it. I had actually sold mine on Discogs for $20 shipped but guy didn't pay. If my cassette wasn't back at home 3 hours away I would definitely sell mine to you at cost I paid for it.

in my opinion, it's a great listen especially if you're obsessed with the album. Different, rougher vocal takes by DOOM was the main drawing point for me, but it's got a nice down and dirty vibe and things are just wonky enough to warrant a listen. apparently these are mad sought after though... I stopped listening to mine when my car's tape deck quit on me,

Maybe the guy caught wind of this post because I just got a Wantlist alert from Discogs and he dropped the price to the $56 range.
Still too steep for me. I was thinking $20-30 range.

But I do want to hear the differences from the album. And yes, I AM obsessed with that album. After Donuts, it's like the holy grail.

On eBay I recently sold my Madvillain Box along with the Madvillain CD album, the Madvillain 2LP vinyl album, the Madvillain Instrumentals 2LP vinyl, the All Caps vinyl single and a radio promo vinyl of the All Caps single with unreleased bonus beats.

I got $250 for the lot.

It was a shame to let them go but I needed the money at the time...

Cheers!

^^ It's this release here... it features an additional interlude and a bonus instrumental beat.

Peace!

Cassette Store Day falls on September 27th this year.  I definitely would've bought the Madvillainy cassette had I gotten to the ST site in time.  I'll be prepared this year  ;)

I've got an extra Madvillainy Tshirt (XL) / Cassette / 7" box set that has stayed in the box since I got it from the ST store.  I'd accept a reasonable offer...
