Justfor the record,
I am holding judgment until I hear some shit.
So, I hope he posts some youtube vids, you know, follow the current standard model.

It's interesting working in the digital age. I work in the production of digital product. We, as a company builds apps and want people to download to the device. The current, generally, most succesful model, is to offer your app for free, then have people pay for content once they have it.

Anyhow, let the dood post some videos, then ye shall judge.
Haha.
Bet they're good. Dood is down with Q Tip.

Dunno if I mentioned this in some other thread, but doesn't the title of this album (series?) seem super lame? Hard to take something seriously that uses a hashtag in title, especially when expecting "real hip hop" lol

Def has no effect on the quality of the music, but that'll def make some people look over this album imo (if I saw it sitting on a store shelf I'd def skip it)

I've never really liked the term "real" when it comes to these things. Everyone's interpretation of stuff can be different, so it's kinda hard determining what is "real" and what is not. Kind of the same thing when people say "blah blah only real americans think/do this" for example. Just seems kind of condescending, though maybe this is why it's an appropriate title for this project lol

It is a bit limiting. What is real hip hop? Boom bap of the early 90s? If so, what about the g funk sound of snoop and dre? What about the spaced out sounds of Outkast?

The rap world would have been ok without that shitty west coast sound that you mentioned, to answer your question.

Hm. The Chronic and DoggyStyle have tons of heat. I prefer NY boom bap but those two albums in particular, for me, get plays. That being said I never really got into NWA. I had Straight Outta Compton but Ice T's Power got way more rotation.

I cannot rule out ICE-T and his contributions. It was definitely different and thought-provoking as he built his career. NWA was popular for the wrong reasons.

Yah, they certainly were a negative voice. however, that negativity was certainly understandable given the conditions they grew up in. Anger was bubbling from them plus a lot of ignorance courtesy of Easy E. I guess the two best from there survived on their own terms.

I'd beg to differ about your last sentence, but arguing what constitutes "best" is a minor point.

Well, not sure what about the song or video you liked, but, I'd venture to say, like I did earlier that Ice Cube had the least to do with his music and the remarkable nature of the track. I will give him credit for A most Wanted...he was still trying to put people on...

My point was to lead you down a path--you mentioned ICE T and at some point Cube and he shared a sound because they were working with the same dude. Not sure what happened but the sound changed.

But, usually you can see the soul of the musician through his music and this dude like the kiddie movies.

While we are on the topic--we can stop talking about that bullshit brand of music that you are talking and get back to the topic we had back in here that split the forums into two contingents the older heads and you younger generations...

Just for the info the cooler younger cats--it does pay to listen to the nineties shit. I won't bother wasting my breath on this again. Those of you that talk yada yada about it--really do not know what you are talking about.

The hard gutter of the East was something else.

LoL
Granted, Cube, like almost everyone, fell off in the two thousands, and yes, he is no Mos Def, he has punch in his rhymes and was on the righteous side of things.... When it was popular.
