There's a topic on this forum about overrated Hip-Hop groups - how about the underrated ones?

The most underrated for me are: Slum Village x Lootpack x KMD.

What are yours?

The Underachievers got a bit of hype earlier this year, but I feel like people stopped talking about Indigoism pretty fast. It's still in my top 3 for albums this year imo

As far as folks around ST go, I feel like MED has always been underrated. Always been the best emcee on the label I think, it's a shame we don't get projects more frequently from him.

Binary Star, I'd as well say that Tha Alkaholiks didn't get all the praise they deserved.
Some Lo-Life rappers too (since Berry Woods mentioned Thirstin' Howl III).
Many other solo rappers deserve a mention too....

Gravediggaz!! really ? got enough attention over here, I'd have to say Blackalicious, Solesides crew, Jel, Dose One, Buck 65, Abdominal, Sixtoo, Odd Nosdam ( In my eyes probably the first beat scene artist along with all the other originals on the Anticon label, he did an album called plan 9 in 2000, and it was already put out 2 years earlier on tape, check it along with other older Anticon stuff, and it is clear to me that LA did not invent what has been dubbed as theirs). The Arsonists, Company Flow, El-P (Part of Run The Jewels, which I'm sure is the EP name not the group), Blacastan, Brown Bag All Stars, and the Mighty J-Live.

Run The Jewels = El-P + Killer Mike.
it actually is the name of the group, as well as the name of the first track on that EP you're talking about.

Underrated by whom though? Most listed here are well celebrated by underground/indie heads and some mainstream hiphop fans.

Word. Supa tight....looooooord. A TameOne feature. SlangCorp, the label, are pretty underrated I suppose. Lots of heat.

Yehdat. Tame's lyrics are just so densely laden with, but he's funny with it, like he doesn't overdo the mr toughie shit. He is up there with the greatest rhymers for me, maybe let himself down with beat selection post Eastern Conference, probably cuz of all the sherm!

This might prove controversial but I rate Cage highly too, I mean arch-wigger Cage, not emo Cage. The Leak Bros Lp is dank.

Yah man. The Jersey rappers are real hilarious generally, have good voices, and nice flows. They are located right beside NY, the heartbeat of the Hip Hop culture, but are, a bizzarro reflection of it.

Tame is hilarious, just like Redman. He has this super thick voice. Al lot of the NJ cats do. I think it is the sea water air. Makes for dope MCs.

Peep this vid, from SlangCorp. They are "from New Jersey. The armpit of America."

Have another one after seeing this new video. Oddisee is great as a producer and think people get that, but he's also fantastic on the mic imo. Wish he'd do more albums like this or last year's album:

Hells winter Cage ? that Cage is sick, the last 2 albums though, bit of a facepalm, moment, don't see how you can follow up to hells winter really. also most of the Doomtree stuff, thought about this one long and hard but Slug, really don't think he gets the props he deserves, got one of the most distinctive voices and flow, and his story telling, and my UK cat Jehst.

Yeah man same Cage, I think I lost interest around Hells Winter, maybe I should revisit it. My idea of hiphop is a loop so dope you could listen to it for 3 hours straight without getting bored and dude/dudes rhyming sick over it. I don't wanna hear guitar solos and angst and shit, like I don't go to McDonalds for a salad know what I mean.

I like Cage when he was a tubby ignorant unashamed wigger on PCP, although I understand you can't expect an artist to stagnate and keep making the same record over and over again. Movies for the blind, Weatherproof, Leak Bros with Tame, Nighthawks with Camu Tao, and Smut Peddlars with Hi & Mighty are the shiiiit. I always think that the Smut Peddlars LP would be a satirical masterpiece if it wasn' for the fact that they sincerely mean every word.

I like Jehst, he's a funny guy, lots of energy in his live shows.

In the video?? Ha. Hilarious. Songs is aight. Like the video tho.
Here is one by TMFSE and Junkwaffel as Emily Rugburn. They seem to be the ones I gravitate to most of the label.
