Been on a heavy JW kick lately, can't overstate how amazing the Cassette series was. Shit, Marion Morrison could have been his debut and I'd have been happy as fuck in terms of quality, same amount of tracks and they're all good.
Also- how hard does JW go on The Buddykrak (CX KiDTRONiK)? Rhetorical obviously. Briefly forgot about that jam, one of the only tracks I listen to off of that album

Definitely agree. The samples on the store page for album are also sounding very good. It's great to get so much consistently awesome music.

True I was. Still doe, after another listen, for me, it does sound amateurish. I don' t really get the hype. I mean, he is interesting, intelligent, trying to make some out of the box shit, but for me, the way he chooses to leave his overall sound of sounds, sounding like they straight out the box, straight from the Casio synth.. I mean, he is not making his sonic atmosphere interesting enough.
I think if he learnt the benefit of running your sounds thru compressors, eq's and all other types of distortion shit, pre mastering, you can make something that sounds aight into something that sounds g'nite.

i really want to like "Reflections" more than i do, but something about just doesn't seem like the kinda JW product i was waiting for...
i would've preferred tracks like that on the cassettes and tracks from the cassette to be on the album.
that Scoop DeVille beat is fucking killer though, can't wait to hear it with lyrics.

After the Calm is a somber opener in the vein of Therapy off Cassette 2
There's stuff that's more like Bowser's Casio shit (Yung Grammar, Gemini, Sandals), but mostly it seems like it IS more Cassette than Bowser. Reflection seems like it's one of the "weirder" tracks on there. Black Magic, You can Love Me When I'm Dead, Find Me In The Future, both pts. of The Come Up, and more could have easily have been at home within the Cassette series. But I'll say I do really like the verses on Reflection and appreciate that it's an odyssey in terms of production even though it's a weird lead single.
I'm a bit of a bigger fan of tightly wound aggressive and/or introspective JW raps (ala Marion Morrison) than I am of JW singing and the 8-bit production stuff, but it's all in there, he's covering all the bases. Gotta love him for that. And if anything, after a few listens it leans more towards the Marion Morrison sound. It's a logical progression from where he was, I don't think anybody who liked the Cassettes will be disappointed.
