The Adult Swim Singles Series continues this week with a new track from Freddie Gibbs and Madlib. It's called "City", and it features Karriem Riggins. Listen above, via Rolling Stone. Along with the free digital single, which will be available to download from Adult Swim on July 22, Madlib's own Madlib Invazion label will release the track on 7" vinyl in an edition of 500.

Nice to see this is getting a physical release as well! Now we should only have to wait about fifteen more years for that Cocaine Piņata full length.

The renaming of the project reminds me of Nas's "Untitled" album.

most likely because naming something "Cocaine"-anything means limiting some commercial opportunities -- it won't be stocked in some stores, won't get posters in windows, wont be featured on iTunes homepage.

meanwhile, some artists just do what the fuck they want ... Z-Ro - Crack (2008), Z-Ro - Cocaine (2009), Z-Ro - Heroin (2010), Z-Ro - Meth (2011), Z-Ro - Angel Dust (2012). Wondering if his next joint is going to be called Bath Salt.

Madlib's music definitely sounds a lot bolder and more energetic in his collaborations. What's going on with that Captain Murphy Victor Vaughn track? Has that not been released yet?

patience. i believe they're releasing all the tracks in order from what they have on the [as] listing, so it looks like that'll be released sometime in late August or something.

My guess is that he has tons of instrumentals using psych/prog/kraut/punk-rock he started released only since MMS13. Like he said, Embryo is his favorite band right now. That's pretty heavy and we will hear more of this stuff soon. The two EP with Gibbs sound more soulful tho.

This beat was originally featured on that Karriem Riggin's Deviation Mix from 2009. The one he did on 1Xtra.

That was a killer mix, a lot of supposed Supreme Team beats on that mix!

Cheers!
