Best Buy has pre-order for exclusive limited edition. Adds Deep, Cold On The Blvd, Terrorist and The Morning After as bonus tracks.

Also hi-res cover

Spoiler

zebra hype yo

Never came across Bestbuy before, especially as I don't live in the States. Do they do a lot of special releases like this? Anyone got this on pre-order from them already? Forgive me for asking, I'm just wondering if someone who did would want to help out a brother and cop me one of those special releases and ship it for cost out of the U.S.? Or do we have any idea if this special version is gonna be available everywhere?

lmao it still doesn't answer the question "why zebra?"

I like the "They Live" promo pic though, feels way more JJ. Would have made for cool DOOM cover art (or back cover art)

Damn, it's every so often we see The Madlib actually on an album cover. Kinda reminds me of the Madvillainy cover in a lot of ways. Anyone else notice that The Madlib has been getting more publicity and coverage since he's joined forces with Egon?

I've seen zebra (black and white) piñatas before. I've also seen rainbow colored ones. I guess the black and white piñata colors read gangsta better than the rainbow piñata colors?

The Spanish translation of piñata is "pot"- Lolz

Why is there a track called Scarface then a track featuring Scarface later on the album. Couldn't they have put them together? Or would that be too corny?

it was real. if i remember correctly Freddie Gibbs tweeted it multiple times and Madlib mentioned it in interviews. Its been like 4 years though. I remember Gibbs tweeting a picture of an itunes tracklist in like early 2012 and saying "coming soon!"

I found this hilarious too. There's a track called Watts featuring Big Time Watts (who is Freddie Gibb's uncle? ) but Scarface is not featured on Scarface.

That "name plate" above gibbs on the front.... lazy and unnecessary gesture. Looks tacky as hell - should of scraped it.

I always thought it was an incredibly horrible and lazy name for this collaboration. Glad that's not the official name.

Can't wait to hear y'all's opinion of this album in the upcoming weeks. I'm holding off for a bit. The Madlibs albums have become more expensive. Even his Beat Konducta records have jumped from $14.99 to $20.00! From Crate Diggin to wallet diggin...

Egon needs that cash to buy more rare ass records for The Madlib to sample. What I call a vicious cycle.

I guess the zebra piñata reference is confirmed (via rappcats):
Posted Image
Los Angeles, March 3rd, 2:10PM PST – There is a zebra piñata hanging from a tree on the west side of Echo Park Lake. It contains an advance copy of Freddie Gibbs & Madlib’s Piñata album, candy, and other mysterious objects. There’s a stick on the ground below the piñata. First person to get there and beat the thing open gets to keep whatever falls out. Have fun, take a photo, and please clean up after yourself.

I feel like I personally associate piñatas with rainbow donkeys, but that's me.
