that cover is dope as fuck. It says so much about the music in a subtle way. I was seriously impressed with it so I was very surprised to see all this hate on here. Like it or not, shits fucking iconic. The image will be burned into your memory much like the B&W villain on the MV cover. Just a prediction.

I'm not even that excited for the album even, so my evaluation is very unbiased. Due to my current living conditions I really can't listen to music, so I doubt I will ever get to hear this shit. Just from my past knowledge of gibbs and otis I think its suiting. And not to throw around credentials, but I make a living (not much of a living but fuck it) from my art, and I say that the cover is very very impressive.

The cover should be some naked big breasted broads stuffing piñatas with kilos of blow.

Haha, like yeah they should just flip the Elle's Theme cover and just add coke and an actual piñata ... and some zebra print thongs on the girls too? That would be fucking horrible.

Only the zebra print would make it horrible.

I am a visual artist and I make a living from my art too! Sunny can co-sign on my work. I think the cover is trash so the credentials really sit in the hands of the jank....or whoever designed that awful cover. Fans will have their disagreements over the art so it's really just a subjective matter at this point. Either way, I'll just buy the mp3 when it drops.

Yeah, Sunny already co-signed this shit

except for the horrible zebra panties that is. Aside from them, this would be fine right.

... for the record, I agree it's all subjective and just plain silly to argue over art. At the same time, I am scratching my dome on how some of you guys are all about the kind of music Madlib makes ("ill mind music"), but can't get past a zebra skin ... because it reminds you of thongs and spray tans (I think that's what one of you said) and/or you rather see a literal interpretation of the album title (i.e with an actual piñata), which may also include women in thongs so long as they aren't freaking zebra. Oh and yeah, it's "cheesy". Not to mention, flat out hating on some original art for an album you're anticipating ... weird stance IMO.

Peace to the board all the same.

Compared to all the dope artwork we have gotten from Madlib projects over the years this is a let down, I even think the one nervous posted is pretty whack.

But like sunny said given all the sigles/EPs that have dropped already I have pretty high hopes for this record.

lmao come on dude.

We've all been waiting on this album for a long while. Personally, I think it's pretty incongruous with the aesthetic we've seen and heard so far. It doesn't help that the image quality of the pic that Gibbs posted seems to be low-res (their names aren't sharp), but having heard all the songs available, seen all the music videos, and peeped all the 12-inch covers...it just doesn't feel like the logical next step, hence everyone's confusion. I know you're getting on Sunny's ass but I genuinely would have been way less surprised by a glossy, shadowy, high-res photo of sultry, coked-out ladies stuffing coke into a piñata. At least the album title would have made sense. To me, this cover is like a bad photoshop temp version that somebody put together and sent in.

I think the best album to compare Cocaine Zebra to, is the Stoney Jackson LP.
"Which batch of Madlib beats are better?"

I give you that Gibbs has flow for days, but really - we be coppin for the beats.

Yeah that's what I've been saying for a long time now. I'd say that the beats on this FG album (that we've heard so far) are at least as good as Stoney Jackson's, maybe even better when full thing is out.

Stoney is one of my all time favorite complete albums produced by The Madlib, but I'm calling Cocaine Zebra as the one with better beats on the strength of Harold's ALONE. Now that I think of it that album had a shedload of guest appearances by pretty mediocre rappers as well but that never stopped me from playing it on repeat constantly.

That album cover was amazing though...

zing!

The Stoney album cover, and the instrumentals cover too, are amazing.

Production wise, Stoney Jackson is definitely going to be hard to top but based on what's already been released from the Coke Pony, I got a feeling it might take the cake.

(... this is totally unrelated, but Stoney Jackson always reminds me of this bonkers track with an amazing hook )

Yeah that is pretty crazy that Madlib associated with one of those exclusives, helps to have more "mainstream" names associated to the record I suppose
