Was going to say not too expensive on Discogs, but looks like all of those sellers in Europe
($18.99 from USA seller :().

If it weren't for me being all ocd about having all these EP's I'd prob trade/sell mine, think the 7 inch my least favorite (though it's still solid!)

Just get your fingers dusty, learn what labels and artists are dope, buy a lot of crappy records and a stumble across a few really good ones. Other than that there's no need to 'know' what song The Madlib is flipping. When you eventually find something he's used it is such a better experience, trust me.

I hear ya, but I've been getting my fingers dusty for decades and I was happy when I came across Advanced Jazz. I knew I needed some of the albums on there and this board help me locate them. Also, some of the samples aren't all that hard to find by just googling the lryics (like off of Brain Wreck). I have come across stuff he sampled by accident and that is super cool, but I don't feel bad about using STMB to find out about Nat Adderley which is one of my favorite new to me jazz players..

I do buy a lot of crappy $1 records, but I do a little research before I drop $10 or more. I don't need to hear the album before I pay, but I do like to know it is not a total dog.

any difference between trying to find out songs on a mix tape vs. what sampled was used on a song?

I know right. I guess I may have played it too safe when I was spending real money on CDs and Nat just never popped up in the dollar sections of records or at thrift shops.

decades of what and I just now hear about Ray Draper?! It's a fucking tuba...

i never really understood this school of thought, and I think it's horseshit...no shade to you personally. Plus, i know a homie who smoked with Madlib and straight up asked him what he used for certain shit and 'Lib told him. Maybe it was because he was high? Or maybe he would tell anybody because all that "i'm not going to tell you this sample, find it on your own" b.s is such an outdated way to think in the digital age. I dunno.

It's simple and plain that Gibbs is seriously gifted with the word play. If you don't recognize that you simply aren't respecting/acknowledging (consciously or unconsciously) the craft and skill that it takes to put words together the way he's been doing it. Literally speaking it's about the way he builds rhythms through intricate pairing of words and syllables in compliment to the beat. What makes a guy like Gibbs standout in the pack is that he's able to do that and often times tell a story... or just paint some serious gangster landscapes. ...if you don't care for his particular style, imagery, aesthetic, subject matter well that's just subjective and pointless to argue against somebody who does. i.e. You might like the Hendrix more than Clapton, or viseversa, but you have to acknowledge that they can both play the god damn guitar. And even if you don't like one at all but love the other, you're still can't go and say the one you don't like can't play. Gibbs = exceptional mic skills.

there are people out there who like Clapton OVER Hendrix?

Yes, nobody is trying to exclude anyone by not immediately identifying samples. And with Madlib, I don't think it's even really a "no one else can use my shit" situation. It seems to me a lot of people fail to grasp that often Madlib is operating within a legally-gray area, and often the only way he'll be called out is by his own dedicated fanbase. The artists he samples are more often than not never going to stumble on their own illicit inclusion, but once you type out the phrases "madlib" "sample" and "random artist", it begins appearing in google searches, etc. and then the bass player's niece discovers it and suddenly madlib's "getting popped for samples", retroactively paying people. Without the trappings of the "digital age" (even madlib has been admitting he's checking Youtube for material now haha) Madlib could have probably put out quite a bit more uncleared work for us all to enjoy, ala Mind Fusion, etc. I mean I wonder if there was any blowback that we never heard about from MMS #'s 12/13? Or any of the mixes for that matter

As far as the new track... BEAT IS AMAZING.
