YES finally a gibbs video I like! All I needed was a tiny bit of story, to match the picture-painting raps.

Gibbs's actin' pretty well. although that imaginary fake fight makes ol' Gangsta look like he can't throw a punch!

Another shitty video from that crew, fortunately the last one if its a trilogy as mentioned on rappcats . This one was the least shitty I guess though.

Edit: It's interesting how the easier/cheaper access to better tech/quality of video is available and makes stuff "look good" yet the lack of creativity can still be super apparent lol

Also when I woke up and was reading e-mail I thought it said the video was for Broken and got excited, then I learned it was for Deeper :( (Thuggin/Shame/Deeper were all the weakest FG tracks imo)

I loved the album, however I thought "Deeper" was a banal story from Freddie Gibbs. Why the hell would a guy complain about a woman leaving his delinquent ways for legitimate person who's budding to become an astronaut? :P Good beat by Madlib though (remember initially hearing it on MMS#11).

lol @ the marketing genius of releasing the video 8 months after the EP. Not sure it was worth the wait...

GC90, I can't agree with you about Thuggin' though, far from weak, it's one of the best gangsta rap tracks ever imo.

As far as the production goes it's still one of the best on album and probably within my top 10 Madlib beats, but I don't see how anything FG rapped about added anything to gangsta rap (nothing really unique/clever and as far as delivery goes not all that crazy imo. FG much better on other tracks here). etc etc etc, I'm basically the only one on STMB who wasn't a fan of that video/track (more of the complaint based on video vs song)

Between the lame fight sequence of this video and the use of big ass banana clip guns/ridiculous weapons in the Thuggin video it seems like he's less legit thug dude lol

Have it on my Google All Access thing and have been playing that beat (the one featuring Scarface anyway, Broken) and Watts to death lol

As far as the beats by themselves, think my three favorites are Thuggin, Lakers, Watts

Ones I thought were better without FG are Harold's, High (mostly Danny's feature though), Robes (again, due to the features not FG actually), and Lakers (no Ab-Soul feature lol). I guess the features were the weakest point of this whole album imo.

Pinata's still the weakest track, with or without the vocals.

Edit 2: Also, hearing the little bits/details in the instrumental version is neat!

http://rapgenius.com...-thuggin-lyrics

Basically he's saying he's a legit thug, he's not changing, it feels so good, it feels so right lol - Am I wrong in thinking this has been done a million times?

I have always liked this line, though a bit dated:

Why the Feds worried 'bout me clocking on this corner
When there's politicians out here getting popped in Arizona

Besides the flow I don't see anything really noteworthy about the track besides the production. Ultimately it's pointless to debate this here though because everyone else loves this song .  -_- Only brought up again because the last video for this record was almost as crappy as the first one.

Also kinda funny, all these videos were done by white dude/people it seems (Is it safe to assume "Jonah Schwartz" is a white dude? lol) . If it were just FG I wouldn't care but seeing Madlib's name attached to these vids pisses me off.

Unless FG had a super specific vision of how these videos should be, it was likely some white dude (director/etc) who was making these video concepts up. Basically white privileged kid shooting video of what he thinks is hood/thuggin, I'd argue is similar to a minstrel show (but instead of white people in black face they got FG to star in it lol). This is true of a bunch of rap videos in general, but to see Madlib's name thrown on top of that is a bummer.

There's probably lots of examples of other artists I dig/etc doing this same thing, it's just something about these particular videos that's especially annoying to me personally I guess.

Someone transcribe Thuggin' then try and tell me that he isn't bringing something to the gangsta rap table.

Basically besides delivery/production, not sure how Thuggin is any different than stuff like this lol

All of these songs/videos are just as corny as each other imo.

Besides all of the singles, I dig the combo too. FG actually does come through with some unique ideas/concepts on the record and he does know how to flow to a Madlib beat (unlike a good portion of the features). Whoever picked the singles sucks I guess lol

That's a lot of assumptions in one post. You should just read the credits of the video, look up the director and ask him yourself http://jonahschwartz.me

Did FG have a vision for these videos?
Are you white?
Are you privileged?
Are these videos what you think hood/thuggin is?
